Bas Saint-Laurent KOA Holiday

About

Le Camping KOA Bas-St-Laurent est délimité à l'ouest par une magnifique plage de sable, en bordure du Lac Saint-Mathieu à St-Mathieu-de-Rioux.

Story

This KOA lies in the heart of one of Quebec's most beloved vacation areas, right on the lakeshore of lovely Lac Saint-Mathieu, with its postcard views of the mountains and the resort community of Saint-Mathieu-de-Rioux. Without leaving the campground, you can launch a kayak, pedal boat or paddleboat; go boating; join in a game of beach volleyball; swim; bird-watch on the nature trails; or dine in the full-service restaurant. There are plenty of activities just beyond this KOA, including golfing, fishing, Jet Skiing, horseback riding, whale watching, hiking, biking, mine tours and boarding a true war submarine. Bas St. Laurent hosts a full roster of campground events, from barbecues and treasure hunts to themed holiday weekends. Enjoy the new Jumping Pillow. The accommodations-from RV and tent sites to motel rooms-are sure to please.

Big, clean, spacious sites that are staggered so they feel private. The gravel is plentiful so you don’t get gravel dust!!! As you walk around the views are spectacular. Close to many things to do like golf, site seeing, eating and drinking. Would definitely recommend and I’d surly stay again.Service: 5/5
They advertise pontoon rentals and rides however they sold the pontoon 3 years ago. They should update the koa site. There is nowhere to fish yet they advertise it. The resteraunt was closed for our entire stay Saturday to Wednesday. They didn't honor our 10% KOA member discount. We checked out early because there is litterally nothing to do. We stayed in the deluxe cabin with 2 rooms and a pullout. All the beds were extremely uncomfortable and worn. We spend the extra money for comfort. The toilet was dirty. The cabin is a very nice layout but the master should be a queen not a double. The beach was well maintained but would have been nice if the pontoon was available as we drove 14 hours to stay here and 2 of the planned days were fishing and pontoon ride. We did find some things to do an hour away but was hoping for more local amenities and there are none. Litterally in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do. Most staff were friendly.
The worst customer service and road quality! I called ahead twice ensuring we're getting the upper level for our 2 nights camping, where the washrooms are, as there's a bit of a distance to walk each time. The lady assured me both times that there's going to be a note left with my name on it, all instructions inside including. We arrived at 11 pm and found 4 different envelopes for late coming guests. Only 1 envelope had name on it, and no , it wasn't mine . Insides of envelopes were very similar, so it took us sometime to figure out, which one is ours. Code for gate enclosed in the envelope DID NOT WORK, so, the gates remained closed no matter how we tried. Call button on the gates did not work, and we weren't advised of a y number to call in case we have questions. After some more time we finally got in, only to find out that our camp site was not in fact on the upper level, as I was promised. While driving on the very bed road in the complete darkness not a single light bulb, I got completely lost in the woods and almost got in the accident, damaged my car in the front due to excessive bushes and no lights and barely got out back onto the hill, so steep it was. We we forced to park 100 meters away from our campsite, cause the parking on the actual site was so inconvenient I was afraid I'd have to call tow truck after. On top of that , once I arrived to the office in the morning, manager instead of letting me finish the story with code that did not work at night, rudely interrupted with: you wanna leave now? Have a nice day. It was such a wonderful place 2 years ago. Completely ruined. Dirty washrooms on top of that. No wonder that once completely full campsite is half empty now. Frustrated, angry, will not come back.
Beautiful scenery. Absolutely stunning. Poor, arguably rude, customer service from staff and unfriendly campers surrounding you.
What a KOA Resort! This is the place where you want to have a real vacation. Excellent customer service + breathtaking views = best vacation!
Echoing other reviews - felt like a very well maintained and groomed huge parking lot rather than a campground lol. We stayed for 2 nights visiting nearby Park le Bic. The nature park was gorgeous. KOA site was decent. Very nice staff, warm pool which we took advantage one warner morning. Hot tub was locked and we did not get the key. Could have played mini golf - again required a trip to the office. Skipped. Covid protocols we guessed... Access to st Mathews lake and a beach. Water was warm in the beginning of September. Nothing spectacular, quite secluded body of water to take a plunge or ride a boat. Agreed wifi could have been better. We paid for a day abd did not have any signal at our site. The park could invest in a few extra routers in the traveller's section. Essentially don't bother Come and enjoy the experience for a night. A nice stop on the way.
My boyfriend, our puppy and I spent two nights here, on our Gaspesie tour. We had rented a cabin along the waterfront. It is of note, that this KOA is simply massive--it offers tent campsites, several trailer sites and a few cabins along the water, all of varied prices and sizes. While we were there, it wasn't too busy, so it was peaceful. I would imagine during busy season, with all sites occupied, it would be quite noisy! We loved that there was a massive park for children, including a pool, splash pad, trampoline as well as mini-putt. Though we didn't use any of these, the kids seemed to have a good time! There was also a small fenced-off dog run, off to the side, which was nice. The beach and lake is really nice and peaceful--there seemed to be rentals for all kinds of water equipment available, too. The staff is very friendly and kind. Downsides were that you have to pay extra for WiFi, the cabins ours anyways and their furniture/kitchen/etc were a bit dated/old, but well equipped and spacious. The closest grocery stores/services are within a 20 minute drive.
Big RV park, no privacy at all between the sites. It's basically a multi level gravel parking lot with small strips of grass separating each site. Each site has a picnic table, a fire ring, a 30/50 amp power post, freshwater. Some sites have sewers. Compared to the numerous other KOAs I've stayed in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, this was the most basic one of all. There only 2 bathrooms servicing the entire park, one at the entrance the other at the opposite end of the park. It's a looong walk for many of the sites, and be prepared to wait if the park is more than halfway full. No free wifi, effectively. Range of the free wifi is limited to **inside** the office, where there are a few chairs for customers to sit. Really, KOA?? It's 2021, time to catch up with the times. It's $3.30 per day for wifi that is capped at 5mb/second, which isn't very fast for paid wifi. For reference, that's barely enough to maintain one HD stream from Netflix or other streaming video, let alone multiple devices cell phones, tablets etc. or multiple streams. We rely on internet not just for entertainment purposes, but more critically, for zoom calls to home and work. Disappointing, given that internet is widely considered an essential utility these days. Nice things: the playground was quite nice.. kids enjoyed themselves on the jumping pillow. Pool and hot tub were smallish but very well maintained. Washroom and laundry facilities are well maintained. Staff are quite pleasant to talk with. Maybe the best thing going for this park is its location. Other than that it's pretty much a middle of the road KOA.
The campground itself is big. Lots of things for the kids to do. We had to drive up two big hills with our fifth wheel to get to our site. Everything is situated on the lower level. No one walks they drive golf carts because of the hills. The view from our site is beautiful, on a cliff overlooking the water. We only stayed one night. Its was a 40 min drive off the trans canada rough roads and big hills. Got to see lots of beautiful country
Location, location, location! Spectacular views, clean site. Water activities were closed because it was cold but we loved it. Staff was very helpful too.
