3.7/5 The patio is lovely on a warm day and the food was decent. We started with two items from the happy hour menu. The Bone Marrow was rich and flavourful and nice to share. The Oysters were okay. There was one that tasted a bit off which gave me pause. For mains, we shared the Calamari and Pork Chop. The calamari was crispy and flavourful. The pork chop was quite impressive with a wonderful combination of flavours and textures. I appreciated the thought that went into this dish as the flavours were quite intricate. The small disappointment was that it wasn’t hot when it arrived, and that the spaetzle fried egg noodle topped on the pork chop wasn’t crispy but a chewy texture, which didn’t exactly compliment the dish well. As for the service, one server dropped cutlery on my friend when clearing the table and didn’t offer anything to clean her clothes off. This was a bit surprising. Although pleasant, the servers were a bit absent and rushed. Overall, it was an okay experience. Perhaps a one off so we may give it another shot if we’re in the area!
Cozy and relaxed. Sit at the bar, the patio outside beside the St. Lawrence market, or at a table for two. Bone marrow was great the first time. The second time, it was super salty. I found that the mains are on the light side. The tuna was seared nicely. Rich in taste with the black garlic, eggplant, chili, and crispy shallots. The smoked trout - where was the trout? 2.5 small chunks. Portion too small. I know it's smoked but again very very salty. Almost could not enjoy it. Adorned with chips. Others got various cocktails and drinks. Did you change chefs?? Vegetarian options: Speak with server Dietary restrictions: Speak with server Parking: Paid parking including various parking lots and garages in downtown Toronto. Kid-friendliness: Bring your kids, though it may get pricey... Wheelchair accessibility: No. Place is downstairs. Patio may be ok. Washroom may be a challenge unless you go to St Lawrence Market when it's open. Ask staff to confirm
Had a lovely dinner at Bar St. Lo. The atmosphere is very cozy. The wait staff were very attentive and took the time to answer questions and explain the dishes to us - as it was our first time. The food is very well made and portioned but is not what you might expect - for example, the Smoked Trout and the Tuna were more like salads than entrés and the Slaw was perfect to share. Everything we tried was beautifully presented and delicious! The Cauliflower Tartare and Burratta were surprisingly filling, and there was just enough room for Chocolate Flan and Carrot Cake without raisins!
Had a decent experience on the patio, grabbing a few cocktails daily special cocktails were average and small bites. The friend I was with ordered chicken and waffles. Impressed by how it looked I ordered one for myself but was astonished by the plate I got! Food was tasty but it was almost half the size… see the photo
Talk about being situated on a quiet, beautiful street. This restaurant has a multiple-level patio before entering a somewhat dim-lit, quaint restaurant. We were quickly greeted an Australian hostess who was super polite, pleasant, and had a big white smile that made us feel comfortable before we were seated. We sat on the patio and to the left of us was a large window facing the prep kitchen where we saw prep cooks cutting the veggies and other ingredients before they were used. Our server James was absolutely fantastic! He recommended almost everything we tried and it was all delicious!!! He was a cool, down-to-earth guy who could carry a conversation extremely well and knew the ins and outs of what food to order and why. He recommended the steak tartar and burrata. Although we’ve never tried the steak tartar, it is definitely an acquired taste and was worth the test. James let us know the chef won multiple awards for the steak tartar. The burrata though!!!!! Omg. Absolutely incredibly delicious! That’s all we’re going to say about that. We then got the calamari and James let us know he’s a “sauce guy” and the two sauces that came with it were incredible dill & spicy aioli. Wow! He wasn’t kidding. Those two sauces were sooooooo good that when we finished the calamari, we used our forks to clean out both sauces. If you have a requirement for spiciness, you’re covered. If you require something more cool and relaxed, you’re covered again. Our experience here was absolutely amazing from the greeting to saying our goodbyes. James is a really cool guy and we definitely are going back. Thanks to James, the staff and Bar St. Lo for making our experience flawless. This is our experience. What’s yours?
Food was amazing. I had Calamari and Burrata. I loved my drink, Hungry Loop. Service excellent as well, Ben was super nice and recommended good food and drinks. Thank you for the amazing afternoon. Loved the experience!Food: 5/5
One of my favourite spots in the neighborhood, I’ve been here a number of times for special celebrations and casual dinners. Excellent drinks and good menu. The staff have always been extraordinarily friendly and nice. The atmosphere is fitting for any occasion.Recommended dishesCauliflower Tartare, Bone Marrow, Black Cod, Burrata Salad
Nice little place with a patio that is a bit more private than most. Cocktails were good, food was good, service was good but a little slow and food and drinks didn't arrive at the same time for both people.Food: 4/5
Wow, loved the happy hour menu 5pm-7pm at Bar St. Lo. I've been seeing this place more on social media so decided it was time to try it, and it definitely did not disappoint. We made a reservation after work for 6pm on Thursday, although I don't think a reservation would be necessary on week days as the place is big and it wasn't full. We were seated immediately in a pretty private area. I think the special used to be buck a shuck, but now it is $2 a shuck which is about standard nowadays. The quality of these oysters is no joke! They are large and juicy and so fresh, usually at other places I enjoy smaller size oysters more but these really hit the spot. We ordered 3 dozen, which may have been overkill, but we couldn't get enough. The happy hour menu also had cauliflower tartare and bone marrow for $9, which we ordered since it was so cheap, why not? And wow - these are amazing, especially for the price. The bone marrow is to die for. Definitely recommend both these items. We also got the steak tartare off the regular menu $25, which I liked but wasn't wowed by. With two drinks each $9 a pop, I ended up spending $100 including tax and tip. Kind of pricey for a happy hour meal, but I did really enjoy it. Maybe next time I'll pass on the beef tartare and not eat so much as if oysters are an endangered species.
Bar St. Lo is an absolute gem! The food was sensational, with standout dishes. The service was amazing, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who enhanced our dining experience. The ambiance was warm and inviting, making it perfect for any occasion. The extensive drink selection added to the charm. Bar St. Lo has undoubtedly earned a top spot on my list of favourite restaurants, and I'm looking forward to returning.
