I liked the non alcoholic bev called the shrub. They were out of tamarind limeade but I’d like to try that next time. The “rose” drink was good too but not my fave. The sound system and djs are usually great and they have a projector for visual artists. The layout of the space is really well done and offers a lot of potential for ppl with different needs, including how it’s wheelchair accessible by being on ground level .
I went to celebrate Halloween and they decorated the bar perfectly ! Their drinks are really good too, I recommend if you’re looking to have a nice time drinking and dancing. Special thanks to Grace who served my friends and I, the service was perfect. We will definitely be coming back.
Went on a Saturday night expecting a lively crowd and good drinks. The card machine for cover was declining everyone’s cards and was very finicky so we waited in line for quite some time. Finding a table was easy, although there were not many. The bar tenders were friendly, but forgot about our drinks and took quite a while to get them to us. The prices were also expensive, a vodka cran single was $8. The DJ kept the music interesting and lively, but the audience felt like a high school dance. The energy was low and people were not specially respectful. We made the evening as enjoyable as we could under the circumstances but I would not go again unless I knew it was a better crowd.
someone told me once that the little mouse door in barbossa opened up to a comedy club. do NOT trust anyone who says that because it is wrong! it is in fact just storage. i have seen many a show at barbossa and have gotten many of their ciders and one time an amaretto sour i just ate the cherry. one time i tried their chips and salsa which i did not know they served and it was tasty! would recommend barbossa if you want to look for either an 18 year old chronic smoker with a film photography instagram account or an unemployed 26 year old 'just figuring it out.' there is frankly no in between. quality of the music depends on who is playing / djing so i recommend not going in order to save yourself potential disappointment.
Someone mentioned before in the reviews, queer night is not safe for bipoc. Many are treated unfairly & truly disrespected, including friends of mine and most importantly, my partner.
Went out with friends and was having a nice night until we decided to buy shooters which the lady took back after we payed and told us she couldn’t serve us unless we tip because otherwise it "costs her money" super unprofessional and she was super rude. That specific server was wearing a kiss tshirt on august 28th around 2am. Terrible service, will never be going there again.
Cold owner, cold door girl, cold saxophonist but for some reason I still paid the $5 cover to come inside and check out the music. Luckily, the bartender Dinane? was super chill and nice so I stuck around for two drinks. He's the only reason I'm giving this place three stars. I met a visiting jazz guitarist the other day who told me how pretentious and unwelcoming the Montreal jazz scene was. He was right!
Music was awesome. Vibe was on point. However we had an incredibly rude server. I had been ordering drinks and I forgot to tip on one of the many rounds we ordered and the server large girl, red frizzy hair with blonde highlights berated me for not tipping and subsequently refused to serve our group for the rest of the night, refusing even a glass of water for other members of our table.
Barbossa is a great spot with a cool ambiance, friendly staff, and a great small space for dancing. Great music is guaranteed and the place is nicely set up to have a cool modern vibe. As far as places on St. Laurent, it is frequently overlooked and definitely merits more attention from students and young people.
Good music in general but the service is awful. The barmaids are not smiling at all, ever but not only that...they dont even talk to you, they just approach, prepare, make you pay without any emotion on their face except depression. Even when they approached, I wasn't even sure they were there for me to order since they wouldnt even look at me, I had to ask: ...can I order...??? How awkward is that. I always had to make a CLEAR sign with the hand for them to come serve me if not id be ignored. This was not only a one time thing....after going for a while and receiving the same bad service, I'm out. Definitely not worth going back, it really kills my vibe every time I go there.
