Nice area. I don't understand why there's acres of woods and yet the campground is a u-shaped strip of grass cut out of one acre where all campers are sleeping living parking directly next to each other. I could hear people in their tents on either side of me talking, that's how close we all are. No privacy. Clean.
Campsite had trash in the ring and all over the ground. From metal cans some burn, cardboard, and plastic. Be prepared to pick up trash when you get there.
Been coming here for 40 years this was our first time staying at the Yurt me and my family had a amazing time
I am sure this would be a great campground any other year, however the mosquito swarms were so bad with the heavy rains and dry spells! We couldn’t stay…our dog was being swarmed, and we decided to leave. We normally camp several times a year throughout Michigan, but this was too much. The DNR should do a flyover and spray down the area. Maybe we will come back in fall.
Large campsites are the best part about Appleton. Plenty of space away from other campers if you want it. Wood is plentiful if your willing to search but beware of the poison ivy, it seemed to be quite rampant throughout the park and Campground.
Appleton Lake is a great little lake, has public access with a State Park Recreation pass and is a no wake lake great for using kayaks on. Have fished there twice with lackluster results later summer. It's about 1 mile to make a pass around the lake. Took my 70 year old Dad out kayak fishing and it was the right size lake for a three hour tour. Beautiful views with only a few houses on the lake on the East end.
Very nice, clean, friendly, lot's to do and explore.
Clean, spacious campgrounds with fire rings - unfortunately no grill grates for cooking. Nice little beach area with charcoal grills, gazebos, and play area.
Camped at Appleton Lake and had the best time! Clean camp grounds, wonderful helpful staff, and THE BEST shower facility! Next time want to stay at a remote cabin with the family.
Mostly large sites. Great for shake down runs for off gride camping. Always peaceful on off peak times
