Alberta Prairie offers train excursions lasting from five to six hours traveling on a 42.4 mile round-trips. Most excursions include a full course buffet meal at destination, on board entertainment, time to do some sightseeing, and usually a train robbery. You will experience life at a slower pace and meet lots of new friends as you travel through some of the prettiest countryside in Alberta. There is lots of wildlife and learn about this traditional form of transportation.

We boarded the Polar Express to the North Pole. What an amazing experience from start to finish. Just like the book. Beautiful souvenir mugs, everyone joined in singing Christmas songs. Silver bell made the whole trip. If you haven't done this you should put it on the agenda for next year

Last minute decision called at 8am and was able to get on that day. Nice and relaxing ride to and from Big valley, train robbery was pretty entertaining. Not just for older folks, both my husband and I really enjoyed it. Get up and walk the train and see all the different cars, some are old and rustic others look higher end. I believe if you book way ahead of time you will get seats in the nicer cars.

Been on the train robbery tour 2 times. What an awesome experience. Love love love it! If you are a train enthusiast you gotta do this.

Fun time for the kids - not bad for the grownups. Old style oil-fired steam train, rebuilt coaches, nice prairie landscapes hurtling by at 15-18 mph, on board entertainment ( yes the train is licensed and even has a "bar car" ) - and we specifically were on a day with a scheduled "train robbery" although - of course - the sheriff rode in to save the day. Some "tourist time" in the town of Big Valley - complete with a very nice picnic-style lunch provided in the community hall. Highly recommended if you're a "train buff", or have school aged kids.
