I have been to a bunch of physiotherapists about a shoulder issue. No real luck despite best efforts. My luck changed when a leading orthopaedic surgeon recommended Kate Gladney at Adelaide West. I decided to have one last go. I followed Kate’s instructions and her treatment plan. My symptoms have declined by about 90 percent to the point that I hardly think about it anymore. Beyond my own care, I’ve sent many friends and colleagues to Kate with unanimously positive results.
My first visit to Adelaide West was in 2009 after a L4-L5 partial-Discectomy surgery. I had seen many practitioners with no relief. Karl was kind and talked me through his techniques which made me feel comfortable. He helped manage a lot of fear I had gotten from my surgeon about never being able to run or do any sports ever again and had me back to work as a hairstylist in 2 weeks! He also Encouraged me to try reformer pilates which has been a total game changer. I now feel comfortable taking on any physical challenge. Karl, Kate and the team are there for me whenever something pinches or aches and they usually deliver relief in a single session. My husband and many family members go to see him too. As a hairstylist I have seen many physios as clients and they all hold Adelaide west and Karl in high regard. Many have even studied under them. Courtney and Kathy at the front desk are relaxed and treat you like family and they’ll always go out of their way to get you in when you need it. Save yourself the pain and trouble and go here first!
I have been coming here for years, it's a great place. I followed Mai Ly from her previous clinic because she is top notch. She's worked on various injuries, aches, pains of mine for years. From a seriously swollen Achilles to a rotator cuff tear to a sprained MCL and many others in between. She also does dry needling if you can handle it. I recommend her to everyone. She's also super fun and loves pop culture, which comes in handy when you feel the jolt from the needle and need a distraction.
I'm a new client but after 2 visits, I can recommend Adelaide Physiotherapy without hesitation. An injury that severely limited my ability to function normally is already much improved and I feel very confident in my recovery going forward. No need for me to name any individuals because from the front desk team to the practitioners, everyone is professional, knowledgeable, and friendly.
Two people recommended Adelaide West to me in the space of 24 hours. One was a back surgeon. Angus Driver has been a great help and is a pleasure to work with. I’m more mobile now than in years. I recommend this clinic to all of my friends and a family.
I generally dont take out the time to do a review but when I am struck by a particularly horrible experience, I feel the need to inform others. I am a chronic pain sufferer who has received IMS by numerous physiotherapists for a number of years. I had up until recently been seeing Ashley Chapman, who was great at what she does. Unfortunately, she is no longer with Adelaide West Physiotherapy. In an effort to find a replacement, I saw Mai Ly. I do not have coverage and often just book appointments to seek relief from my symptoms. I am aware it is a band aid approach. After quickly explaining that I would like the appointment to be focused on IMS and not on exercises, I felt a huge shift in Mai Ly's attitude, almost disinterested and judgmental. I immediately got off the treatment table thinking, never again will I be treated by her. So if you are I'm search of a mediocre treatment, terrible attitude and 5 mins of your "treatment time" to be used for charting, you know who to see.
I think i have a lot of emotions to write this. I was first visiting Mai in late June when stage 3 started. I had pretty bad sciatica and needed some help. I was worried about if it could be anything related to discs. And Mai said no it’s glutes muscle weakness and overused. So we worked on it till Aug. I got better and went to Banff and believed my glutes got strong and I got this. And I came back barely can walk straight. And I started asking Mai if she’s sure that this is not a disc issue. This whole time I was thinking it’s just a muscle issues and it’s not a big deal. I did MRI and it shows L4-L5 disc herniation compressing my nerve control my lower body. And it is not good. I really don’t know if I can ever trust any physio and how can I be misdiagnosed like this.
I saw Carl a number several times recently. My second visit seemed kind of short to me. He left the appointment early, and I was pretty sure I didn't get called in on time. I kept track during my last 30 minute appointment. Called in at 1:35, appointment started properly at 1:36, and he was gone by 1:57. This is completely unacceptable, especially when you're paying more that $160 an hour for someone's time. ***** Reply: I guess you did bill me for a 45 minute appointment. Now for some background..... I have a complex issue, and after my initial consultation I was told to book a full hour again the next time. More time was needed to dig into things. After walking out my second appointment suspecting it was quite short, I was told the cost would be $164, or two half hour appointments, rather than $135 like my initial visit. You gave your reasons, which I don't agree with, and don't think applied to my case anyways. You dropping the price only brought it down to what my first hour appointment was. It annoying enough to have to haggle over price for a vacation souvenir, let alone an appointment in the health care field. *****
The best care in the city! I've been going for probably a decade now with Kate and Angus. And in more recent years Kevin has been treating my neck and back. Kevin is incredibly gifted physio, always thinking creatively !
Angus Driver set me back and made my initial injury several degrees worse. I came in to the clinic because I have two bulged discs and deal with nagging nerve related symptoms. He was dismissive of my injury from the beginning saying "I don't feel discy" and he went all out aggressive. My leg was burning from nerve pain the next day and I was limping for a week. My left leg is still numb a week later. Dude was arrogant from the get go as well - bragging about how he treated Jermaine O'neal when he played for the Raptors. All in all, I regret the whole thing. So much for a back specialist.
