I love this place so much, it has hundreds of titles, modern, classic, children's, video games, movies, incredible activities. You have internet access and you can use the computers that are there. I could say a thousand more positive things, so I'll just say, you have to go!
This is a great library. Plenty of selections with movies and computers. The internet is a tad bit slow but if you dont have wifi you won't be complaining . Sometimes the bathroom is locked and you have to make someone come open the door. But when I was new to the area. The staff went out of there way to get me a library card. I had a owing on my name from saskatoon. And they waved it! So I can get a book i was trying to read for years! Took me about a week to go through the book . And when I posted my experience on Facebook. The library responded! Which I found surprisingly interesting. I didn't know they was so in touch with social media. But in this day in age you need to keep up with social trends. They also have social clubs like debate , chess , and crafts ... I enjoyed going to go sit and read in the sanctuary of the invitingly warmth of the place. Open early and closed late. Except sundays . Not open on stat holidays either . There's a wall for posting current events or community events or resources.
I LOVE this place! It is a great place that has something for everyone. Staff is super friendly, very welcoming, knowledgeable and nice. You can access different programs and services here for all the family. I am an immigrant mom of of 3 kids under the age of 7 and since we moved into Canada 6 years ago the libraries have been the place for us to connect, have access to the internet, print stuff, have fun, learn, be part of the community. It is awesome that it's open on weekends especially during the cold winter months. They have a special kids friendly area where you can take your little ones. To the staff at the YPL you are doing a wonderful job here in the community.
I am new to Yorkton and working here on a temporary contract. I love to read, so I came to this library to see if I can have a library card. They were very nice and gave me a temporary card for six months although didn’t have a permanent address in Yorkton and I was living in a hotel. The lady at the counter was very nice and helpful. The library is clean quiet and spacious but unfortunately, the selection of books are very limited. I wanted to check out some French books but to my surprise they only had two adult French books and three children’s French books. Considering that our country is bilingual and French is an official language I was shocked. Looking at the foreign language, section I saw that they had more Punjabi and Hindi books than French books! How Could that be? The lady at the front desk again was very helpful and said I can order them from other libraries. I will look into that. Going through their selection of English books, I also did not find what I was looking for. Like I said, they had a very few books. Yorkton is a big town, and I have lived in smaller towns in Saskatchewan that had a bigger variety. I had also placed a book on hold, and to my surprise found out that there was 200 people ahead of me. I was a little bit disappointed walking out of that library because I didn’t get anything that I wanted so I felt it was a bit of a waste of my time. I understand the library resources are limited. But I think in the end it’s just easier for me to just buy the books that I want online.
The staff are knowledgeable helpful and very welcoming. I wish I had more time to spend there. Everyone does a fantastic job and I feel so lucky to have access such a great facility. A big thank you to everyone working there.
