I’ve been a member for about 3 months now and I can be more happy with my experience. I will say that some staff are not as friendly as the goat himself ALEX. Alex was a big reason as to why I joined and why I still go there. Alex you are my inspiration and I hope you work at YMCA for ever.
Been a member for over half a year now and I have to say, I can't agree with some of the recent negative reviews about the staff. Most of the front desk staff I've talked to are helpful and answer all my questions patiently. Especially Alex, a fantastic and reliable employee who deserves recognition for his diligent and thoughtful work in helping members. It's also great how the membership includes fitness classes like yoga, Bollywood, Capoeira and Belly dancing, all taught by dedicated instructors.
The price is quite high and the staff does not seem to get paid enough, the staff is constantly annoyed at me and is always passive aggressive, I’ve been a member for a year now and that’s just how it is, I’ve lost my card a few times and they told me that they won’t let me in anymore if I come in without my card, which then I had to pay an extra fee for a new card, they seemed annoyed even though I have not lost my card for 2 months then forgot my wallet one day and they said to me “oh you again? You need to remember your card”. But then typing my phone number in to let me in is not hard either but I guess they are more interested in talking to each other constantly.
Staff are really rude and racist, even to each other. The old lady with white hair rolls her eyes and scoffs at every inconvenience. I go there to pick up my son almost every week, and every week I see her being rude to people who come to the gym for the first time or people who don't speak english well. 19 dollars bi weekly for a fitness center without pool is absurd, marine dr fitness world is only 10 dollars. Much cleaner and nicer staff. Go there. I tried to talk my son out of going there but sadly all his friends play basketball there. They get yelled at every week by this old lady. My youngest is only 14 and was not allowed last week because he did not have ID. seems like the younger staff are nicer and patient, when I asked for water one time, old karen said they don't have water, but nice young lady offered me some anyways. But there is only 1or 2 of them. Most are just rude and entitled. Go anywhere else but here unless u want to pay to get yelled at.
The staff at YMCA Langara needs to be replaced as soon as possible! Or to be retrained Immediately!nnThe attitude of the staff and the ignorance of the front desk is not acceptable!nnI've been a long time member of YMCA Langara and other YMCA's but never I witness such disrespectful behaviour towards the members!nnThe little positions that these staff have obtain, they feel like they own the place.nnYMCA has the let them know who they are and What Their position is.
