Wonderful people and best hot dog ever! Just sad we discovered this place and the yummy Deputy Dog the week before you closed. Look forward to your food truck and future endeavors. Happy Retirement!
Only been there a few times, but I love their hot dogs and the service is always great. Friendly employees, great atmosphere and although I've only had hot dogs, they are really good hot dogs, which is a weird thing to say about hot dogs. Woody's is one of my new go-to places.
Is it a good hot dog? Yes. They butter the bun. The fries were good. The staff were nice. But it did not live up to the hype. The hot dog itself was nothing special. It was cluttered inside. Busters in bristol is way better.
I wanted something different for lunch and decided to get the Baked Bean Dog, chips, and a root beer at Woody's. Service was quick and polite. The owner was hamming it up with a couple of customers. I was easily entertained while I waited by browsing through the memorabilia on the walls. Cost was about $7.75. That's a little more than I normally spend on lunch, but in downtown Hartford, that's about normal for a dog, chips, and drink. Overall, good food, good atmosphere, and good service. My only thumbs down would be their location. Their restaurant isn't easily visible from the street.
This is a great place to get an inexpensive and tasty dog. Pretty much all of Woody's lineup of hot dogs are $5 and oversized, with plenty of toppings. I've enjoyed all of the ones I've tried in the years I have been coming here, from the Under Dog bacon and cheese to the St. Bernard Dog swiss & kraut to the classic Chicago-style dog. There are also burgers, Italian sausages, and Kielbasa sandwiches, which are also under $7 and very tasty. Woody's only accepts cash, so come prepared!
Attended as news story on TV reported top hot dog restaurant to close at end of February. Parking $5 per hour next door figured enough time. Waited nearly 20 minutes in a line of 6 people and order the Godfather, Chicago and Philly. Waited another 25 minutes, while an employee locked the front door at 2:40 PM Supposed to be open until 7:00 PM and courteously asked the employee to make my order to go. When received order of three dogs I had time to sit and eat one fresh, as I drove 45 minutes from home. Ate the Godfather dog with dismay of the overwhelming toppings, finished my beer $5 bottle corona and went to exit but door still locked. The male owner eventually made his way to open locked door and was condescending to me by questioning me that I changed order to go. I said had time to eat one for 'nostaglia' before parking went from five to ten dollars. Ends up the third dog was not the philly steak but some spicy dog with pickles that made me barf. Close and retire to Florida you lame ass MFr's as soon as possible! You SUCK!
After hearing so many good things, we ventured into Hartford to give woody's a try. I'm rarely in the mood for hotdogs, but reading the reviews got me craving a good, old-fashioned American working class lunch. The place is small, kinda cramped when it's busy which it was, and lacks alot of seating. There's a bar next door which has access to the restaurant, and you can go in there to sit during rush times. Woody's closes after lunch, so i doubt they ever interfere with each other. As to the food, I admit I may have worked it up in my head due to the reviews, but i wasn't blown away. I opted for 2 dogs, a chili cheese, and a classic deli mustard diced onion, ketchup and relish. Both were solid, toppings applied generously, but nothing made me feel like it was a great hotdog. Overall, if I'm in the area I'll return, but I don't feel like it's worth the drive into the city just for woody's
This place is great for getting delicious hot dog creations! Bring cash because they don't take cards. Also, their Miami Dolphins themed bar is a trip.
The bacon cheese dogs were good. The fries were OK, nothing special. It took over 15 minutes to get that order though. Seems like they could be a little more efficient.
Great place to watch football. Love the hotdogs but the fries aren't salty enough for my taste. Great atmosphere too especially for dolphins fans GO LIONS!!!
