We had a fantastic experience at this Vietnamese restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. The service was quick and very helpful; the staff were attentive and made great recommendations. It was also a great value for the money, with generous portions at reasonable prices. We especially loved the outdoor seating area—it had a nice, relaxed ambiance that made the meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a pleasant setting!
April 28 was a rainy day so we decided to have lunch at Wooden Fish in West Van and wow - totally blown away! Everything we ordered was seriously delicious. Fresh flavors, perfect spice levels, and portions that actually fill you up.nnThe coolest part? The story behind the name! It's based on this old Vietnamese folk tale about a broke student who carved a wooden fish while dreaming of better days. He'd sit near restaurants he couldn't afford, eating his simple rice rolls while imagining sharing that wooden fish meal someday. Guy ended up becoming super successful - talk about manifestation!nThe staff were super friendly and you can tell they really care about the food they're serving. Not that stuffy fine-dining vibe, but still feels special.nnIf you're in West Van and craving Vietnamese, don't even think twice. Just go. Your taste buds will thank you! Already planning my next visit to try the rest of their menu.
Absolutely incredible! The food was beyond delicious — every bite was a burst of flavor. The homemade sauces took everything to the next level. Hands down, the best Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever been to. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and made with love. I’ll definitely be coming back again and again!
Visited in late March 2025... mainly because we saw pics of the carpaccio here. The Vietnamese Carpaccio $22 is perfectly thin and melt-in- your-mouth tender.nnAlso ordered the Braised Short Rib Stew $26 and added a Spring Roll +$5. Springroll is nice and crispy while the short rib is spoon-tender and flavourful.nnLoved the Chicken Wings $15 they have a spicy kick and a crispness to the bite.nnThe Grilled Octopus $15 were tender on the inside with a slight grill to the outside of the baby octopus.nnThere is free street parking outside. And although we had no trouble getting a table, it got busier here by 11:30am.
Really good pho. The broth was super flavorful and comforting. I especially loved their hot sauce just the right amount of heat and it made everything taste even better. Will definitely be back.
