The exciting adventure down the rabbit hole in their Alice in Wonderland themed tea room was as whimsical as promised! Mum and I had a proper "High Tea" with china tea cups, freshly baked scones served with homemade preserves, finger sandwiches, and a bevy of delectable treats served up English style, while the girls had the Fairy Tea, which is a child's version of a High Tea. Everything was homemade and delicious, the tea selection was large and varied, and the service fast and friendly. It quickly became a new favourite for "tea time with Grandma." To avoid disappointment, reservations are recommended - one group had to be turned away because there was no room.
Came in for coffee and cake and it was ok. I ordered the chocolate ganache cake and am 90% sure it was store bought unfortunately. It wasn't bad cake by any means just below my expectations of what a bakery should have to offer. I like the idea of the theme but I feel it hasn't quite hit the mark, there's a fine line between whimsy and tack. With the paper streamers and dollar store fake roses the atmosphere stooped below interest. My wife ordered a roast beef sandwich and it costed 7.99 I believe, and for a cold cut it seems a little steep. That being said they have some tasty tea options as well as good prices for them, the menu isn't too large which is a good thing as a Bible for a menu is indicative of not enough care being put into specific orders. I think it was the owner serving us and she was nice.
My husband gave me and my mother a groupon for High Tea for Two at Wonderland Tea Room and Bake Shop. I made the reservation ahead of time by email, with the owner I assume. Her correspondence with me in making the reservation was rather unwelcoming--there was no "we look forward to seeing you" etc. It was curt and business like. Regardless, the reservation was scheduled for Feb. 22 at 12:30pm and my 84 year old mother and I were looking forward to our outing. We arrived right on time. There was no staff member to be seen. We waited and waited and finally I went to the back to alert someone that we were here. The woman told us their door bell is broken so they didn't hear us come in. We had already seated ourselves by this point. I showed the server our groupon and she asked if we had a reservation. I said yes but she wasn't aware of our reservation. I even showed her the email correspondence with Lori McClymont. She told us they could prepare our food in 10 or 15 minutes. I was concerned we wouldn't get the full experience because they weren't prepared for us but we were assured this wouldn't be a problem because they were already preparing food for the weekend rush. Apparently Fridays aren't busy and the weekends are. We were asked what type of tea we wanted and then if we wanted a raisin or plain scone. We both chose raisin. Then she came back and said they only had plain. I had previously asked if they served Devonshire Cream with the scones, as typically that is standard for any High Tea I've attended. I was told it is $2/person extra. Since they didn't have the raisin scones I asked if we could have the Devonshire cream free of charge and they did accommodate our request. Our food arrived fairly quickly. We had totally finished before the server came to ask if we wanted more water added to our teapots. By this time it was too late as we were ready to go. At no time did the server check in with us to see how our food was. The desserts were disappointing, the sandwiches ok and the scone was good. I feel as though something was lost in the experience because we weren't expected. I understand mistakes happen and reservations get lost but at no point was there ever an apology or discussion of compensation. I would not recommend this venue for High Tea. Even if the customer service was better, I don't feel it was good value for the money.
I was very disappointed when i took my grandchildren to the Wonderland Tea Room. I realize it is a small place and was busy however I was told there was no room for four and basically felt like she was saying don't let the door hit you on the way out. I did say I was willing to wait however that was not met with any type of enthusiasm so we left and will not return.
I tried to make a reservation for tomorrow and was met with a lot of attitude and hostility. I'm assuming it's because I mentioned I'm using a groupon. The woman I spoke to should never be allowed to answer the phone. She was ill mannered and doesn't comprehend the value of customer service. Because of her I will be getting a refund for the groupon and won't be visiting their restaurant anytime in the future. I'll find a teahouse in London who wants my business. Thanks!
Beautiful decor, following an Alice in Wonderland theme. It is very cozy and the staff very friendly. We did high tea, and we're satisfied with the amount and quality of food.
The service is good and staff is very friendly. Good selection of food and gifts. Great place to have lunch and enjoy the atmosphere of Wonderland.
