This school is disrespectful

When you first walk in to Winooski High School, you are met by the overwhelming smell of body odor and musty clothes due to the school neglecting to enforce a personal hygiene rule throughout the school. Winooski High School has a large foreign population of students who are integrated into mainstream classes, some not speaking and some with no cultural adaptation. This creates an extremely difficult learning environment for student and faculty alike, often leading to inappropriate situations and negative confrontations between students. Many students show no desire to learn because of the distance and inequality some teachers present. The authority there is organized less around fixing issues, and more around defusing a situation for the time-being. Although there are some teachers I hold near and dear to my heart and consider good friends, some of the staff make it clear that they do not wish to develop a relationship with the students and focus more on getting the job done. Consequently, many of the students at Winooski who come from less than pleasant backgrounds show as much passion in their school work as some of the clueless and ignorant staff members show in their teaching. Although the outcome of your high school career may be far from perfect, a reliable source of help and guidance is Emmy Charon and Karen Greene. With their support you can expect a less painful high school experience. Overall, Winooski High School should not be pursued in the hopes of an ideal future or high school experience, but if there is no other option then it would be wise to look into the technical programs that Winooski has to offer, at Burlington and Essex high school.

I couldnt disagree more with the comment below. I have been very pleased with Winooski Elementary and Middle School and when my child goes to highschool there I hope to continue to be pleased. I personally sought out Winooski for its diversity because I wanted to assure that in this very white state my child had the opportunity to learn and grow in an environment with a broad variety of perspectives and world/life experiences. Not only am I a parent and a resident but I also have a background of college admissions at the community college/state college and /ivy league levels. I know how college admissions works and what they are looking for in students. I also know that as we expand and shift as a culture an society so are our schools ans colleges. How we learn and teach and what we seek in admissions is also shifting. Winooski may not be the richest school financially but rich doesn't necessarily mean you are automatically admitted to any college you seek. And being poor doesn't necessarily mean the opposite. A student, like my own, can be challenged and have room to truly excel and achieve success academically, socially and personally at Winooski, just like they can anywhere. What I have found with people and their perceptions of Winooski is based in eliticism and bigotry. As someone who had the ability to choose and actually has a background in education and experience in college admissions with a child who is exceptional and is one of the top students in his class I chose Winooski schools and I am pleased with my experience, the attention, innovation, arts, community and I dont regret or feel any worries about my childs future.
