A lovely gallery featuring fine Canadian art and Canadian artists, great exhibitions in a bright, well lit spacious gallery, fantastic Oak Bay location with ample parking and stunning curb appeal, exceptional, friendly, and professional staff, a must visit for art lovers.
After working for more than 2 years at this gallery, the owner who purchased this business in 2019 is refusing to provide my T4 tax slip. The most irresponsible employer I've ever had, from late payments to no benefits and unfair treatment. Never consider purchasing any artwork from this person as he is not responsive nor respectful to anyone.
Took me months of emailing, sending someone in and finally posting on Facebook to get paid by Cal. I was one of the first artists to realize that something was very wrong and am grateful I got my work out of there and eventually got paid. This was in 2020/21 I persisted as I wasn’t going to let yet another gallery steal from me and warned the artists that I knew were showing there that they should pull their work.
I live in the US and contacted Winchester Galleries about acquiring a David Blackwood piece. Despite other galleries that were closer to me geographically, I simply liked the professionalism of their team. They were amazingly responsive and knowledgeable, and every individual I spoke with was exceptional. What is even more remarkable is that I purchased the piece in mid December and hoped to receive it in time for Christmas, even though the timing was tight.. Winchester Galleries bent over backwards to see that I received the artwork by Christmas despite the international shipping hurdles. The painting saga ended happily I am glad to say, after a bad start! I got all our family paintings returned from Winchester Galleries who gave me $1,800.00 for over 10 original paintings by well known artists. I ended up going to Lunds Auctioneers & receiving close to $12,000.00, which I was told was even below market value. What a stressful time that was. Careful who you deal with!
Made a mistake working for a few weeks in here. Not only did I get paid with delays, but the owner refuses to give me my tax papers. Making everything hard for me. So disorganized and irresponsible.
Staff were dismissive and walls were not properly finished in places. Overall this gave an air of unprofessionalism and lack of care. I've been to most of the galleries in town over the years on a regular basis public, private, temporary, pop-up, and this one does not compare favorably.
This is the best gallery in Victoria BC. Winchester Galleries hosts some of the most well known artists late into their careers while balancing mid career artists on their way to success. You are bound to see some of the best works being made when you come by, artists who are highly collected by art collectors. Thanks, well done!
They seem to have gone under. The Oak Bay gallery is closed. I have emailed twice and received no response, in spite of wanting to purchase a piece from them.
I ordered a photo from the recent collection. It arrived within a week and was all packaged for me and ready to go. I love the photograph! Would buy from Winchester again.
