Site 73. Very nice park. The sites are nicely secluded, yet open to be able to roam to other sites. We had tons of wildlife around, deer and snakes! Nice trails, paved bike trails, we only did about a mile of trails and there were plenty more. The beach on the river had amazingly soft sand, the water edge drops off kind of fast but the sand was so nice. It was a .4 mile hike to the beach so pack bug spray. Great staff, rangers available to answer wildlife questions. Clean showers and a little library for the kids.
Wild River was a very nice park. We stayed at the Guest House for the weekend and it was very nice and cozy. The fireplace was warm and there was a good stock of wood outside. We saw a few deer hanging around outside, but they never asked to come in despite the cold and snow. They could have just walked in and stayed in the downstairs gear storage area if they had wanted. There would have been plenty of room in the spacious and open basement. We did some hiking on the trail by the river and spotted a colony of trumpeter swans having a dip in an open area of the frozen St. Croix! Their loud trumpets echoed across the river and were very impressive! I wanted to blat out a couple notes to see if they would come over for a chat, but decided against disrupting their bath. It would be fun to come back when it is warmer!
The trails in this park are awesome. Very well maintained throughout the year. Truly a park of all seasons. Great hiking/biking/skiing and horse riding. It has a nice trail center and visitor center. Campgrounds are nice and has some nice camper cabins and a small horse camp. Has nice day use areas and river access. Views of the river are good and there is ton of wildlife throughout the park.
This is a nice place to hike. We returned multiple times. We encountered nicely groomed trailed with beautiful views and a well maintained port-a-potty at the head of the trail. My only complaint was the mosquitos. I think that had more to do with the time of year and day we visited, as it was better on different trips. Otherwise, it was a joy.
This is a really nice park for hiking, especially with a companion. Many of the trails you can hike here are wide enough to walk side-by-side with someone and hold a conversation. You can also string a few trails together pretty easily to get a more seamless experience.
This is an amazing State Park. The campsites have enough trees and foliage around them that you almost feel alone. The hiking paths are kept is great condition and trails are clearly marked. The rangers are helpful and didn't roll their eyes at my stupid questions. We had an fantastic experience here.
Went with my brother hiking here. We saw a great migration. Very loud. Great trail.
Love this place. My husband and i with are dog went here for a nice walk. We found a lot of nice spots to sit and enjoy the nature. Are dog loves walking in the water. Plus there is nice picnic areas. Benches They have a water fountain/ spicket for your dog's and humans. Lol My husband i made a rock stack. We had a lot of fun. We definitely will be back.
Nice park, easy trails. Typical State Park maps are difficult to read and trails poorly marked.
Candle lit trail event was awesome! DNR had food and live music at a warming house with snacks and refreshments at the end of the hiking section of the trail +bonfire. This is something I'm happy to see my tax dollars going to. Great community event.
