As a former graduate of this school, I had possibly the worst experience here and here’s my story. First of all, some of the teachers here have been teaching for decades, with the same teaching style and grading systems. Grades are not consistent and teachers would give high grades to students they favourited, making it a very unfair advantage for students they ‘less favourited’, which I was amongst those students who got poor grades throughout elementary school because of the unfair treatment from my teachers. Feedback given by the teachers here are often very vague as if they don’t care about supporting students learning. I thought that was the job of teachers was to inspire students, allowing them the opportunity to grow and demonstrate continuous improvement. Teachers here have an attitude and are often very harsh and don’t address serious issues such as bullying. Throughout my time at Wilclay, I was constantly harassed by my peers and guess what? The teachers didn’t even care at all. Not even one bit. After graduating here, I felt a sense of relief on my shoulders, having transferred to another high school instead of my home high school, Milliken Mills, even though teachers at Wilclay have opposed that option for me because they thought I couldn’t adapt going to a new environment, but I proved them wrong. I didn’t listen to what they had to say insisted that I follow my own heart, which I have never regretted since. Going to that new high school relieved the horrible trauma I endured during my time at Wilclay and I felt a sense of relief. I was able to meet some lifelong friends and the best teachers who supported me throughout those four years of high school, which allowed me to achieve my goals and attend my dream school and program of choice. I was finally happy again and I found my family. The worst part of being at Wilclay? The ‘teachers’ at Wilclay have doubted that I would never get into any college or university, but here I am, at my dream school I thought I would have never got in, pursuing my dream program and close to graduating. To those students share the same experience as me, I promise you, that you will be fine and that you will make it out. Never stop chasing your dreams and prove those who think you can’t wrong. I’m so proud of you so keep going. There are so many better and high ranked elementary schools in Markham with better teachers, quality teaching, a diverse and inclusive school environment, and well mannered students so I would advise sending your child somewhere else.
Very poor experience at this school. Staff openly showed favouritism to certain students. They were not transparent/open about their grading process and how much evaluations would be worth, so it was very easy for them to give good marks to their favourites and bad marks to everyone else for no reason. Teachers rarely addressed bullying among students, especially when their favourites were the perpetrators.
Would recommend I as a student love wilclay because it teaches you at the level your at and it is a safe and nice community
