White Lily Diner is one of those hidden gems that earns its following with consistently great food and a warm, relaxed atmosphere.nI’ve visited a several times now and have always been impressed. This time I ordered the meatloaf dinner plate and it did not disappoint. It came with creamy grits, savoury gravy, mushrooms, pickles, and a fluffy biscuit. I added a sunny-side-up egg because it felt right for brunch. Everything tasted homemade, comforting, and full of flavour. The portion was more than generous I couldn’t finish it, which says a lot. They serve good-quality drip coffee, no espresso drinks, but I was just fine with that.nNow, be prepared: there’s always a wait. They’ll take your name and text you when a table is ready, but depending on when you go, it could be a long one. Expect to wait an hour but I’ve heard four-hour estimates before! That said, the food is absolutely worth the wait.nPrices are good for the quality, and it’s clear that care goes into every dish. Definitely a go-to in Toronto for me.
White Lily Diner came highly recommended, and it definitely lived up to the hype during our visit to Toronto. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by friendly staff and a cosy, inviting atmosphere.nnWe decided to try the Southern Breakfast after our waitress mentioned it was one of their unique offerings. It was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and clearly made with care. My husband went for the OG Patty Melt, which had also been recommended by our server. It did not disappoint! The portion was very generous, making it excellent value for money. Lastly, we shared the coffee chocolate donut. It was delicious and full of flavour.nnOverall, White Lily Cafe combines warm service, a relaxed vibe, and great food. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Toronto.
Easily the best diner in Toronto - absolutely deserves to be on the Michelin Guide and I cannot recommend it enough. We got the Reuben Sandwich recommended by our server, the Southern Breakfast and the Biscoff Glaze Donut. The sweet poblano relish on the Reuben paired excellently with the savoury meat and cheese, and the sweet potato salad was a refreshingly creamy side. The buttermilk biscuit with the Southern Breakfast was perfectly fluffy and so so good with the silky scrambled eggs. I believe they change the donut flavours every day, but they are a must try!! So fluffy with the right amount of chew without being greasy or heavy. We went at 4 pm on a Sunday and had no wait, but I would absolutely wait in line for food this good.
As someone who works in the profession I don’t normally leave reviews. I think maybe because I am just sympathetic to all restaurant staff and at some point or another have been in their shoes.nnWith that being said, everything we ate and drank today was honest, delicious, cooked very well, seasoned properly and served correctly. Service was great too!nnWould I come back? absolutely.nWould I recommend to others to go eat? absolutely.nnKudos to the White Lily Team.
I'm sad to say me and my friends did not have a good experience here. I was excited because I saw all the good reviews and wanted to add another cute brunch spot to my roster but the entire experience was unfortunately not it.nnFood: The food was just regular. Not sure how else to describe it. Not outstanding in flavour, or presentation which was unfortunate considering the price point. I had the summer toast and the pickled zucchini was unexpected. The breakfast beer was good though.nnService: Our server was quite absent. As someone who also works as a server hate to be that girl I was disappointed. We had to grab our own water jug from the serving station and we said we'd order food first because we needed more time for drinks but he never came back to our table to get our drinks so I had to go up and place an order with him. He was just on his phone which okay I get it was slow but we're your only table! They ran out of ginger beer sad but it wasn't communicated upfront which would've been nice. Then when we went to pay he made a mistake in punching in our final bills and I ended up paying for my friend even though I handed him my bill. He fixed it but it was just a frustrating situation on top of everything else.nnAtmosphere: Overall the atmosphere was sad and lacking hospitality. The washrooms were sort of clean. Food was edible but to add insult to injury I ended up getting food poisoning that night yikes. The price was not worth it and we would've appreciated more attentiveness from our server.nnI want to give this place the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe it was an off day but seeing other people's pictures of the food alone makes me think otherwise. I'm sad to rate this place as low as I have. I hope this feedback helps!
