I've been coming here almost three years now. Thanks to Rey's training, I'm in the best shape of my life in my 40's!! and am passionate about something I never knew I'd be so into! There's so much *heart*, helpfulness and support here, combined with a killer workout 800 calories in an hour is not unusual! and amazing quality technical instruction. I can't imagine a better coach or a better community to train with.
I was able to join this kickboxing gym in Nov 2018-May 2019. I went in with no martial arts experience looking for a challenge and to learn something new. I got exactly what I asked for learning new combinations/kicks/punches every class with some top notch conditioning work mixed in. Everyone was very welcoming and patient at the beginning and knew when to push me to the next level. Rey has created a great ego-free environment and would recommend it to anyone.
I've been training with Rey on and off since 2011. I now do private classes with him. Regardless if you join a full class or decide on privates, Rey will push you to your limits. His knowledge and patience makes him an invaluable instructor and mentor. I consider myself a very active and in shape person and I'm left dripping with sweat and feeling amazing after every session with him. Can't recommend him enough. Jay
Westside Kickboxing is the best place to get your exercise in the city hands down. It will change your life! I've been doing this for over 6 years and have completely replaced going to the regular gym with kickboxing. The classes are one hour long and are offered 6 days a week. Tons of street parking and two reserved free spots for students right outside the door. The classes are structured in 3 groups - beginners, intermediate and advanced. This allows you to grow as a group with your other team members and advance at a safe pace. It's important to note that this is a martial arts studio not cardio kickboxing so you are expected to behave with respect towards your fellow classmates, show up early just like you would for a yoga class! and take the time to listen to instruction. Rey has a true passion for martial arts and you will not find a better or more committed instructor in the city. He teaches every single class and is always on the floor with you. Westside Kickboxing is a family who support each other to excel, work hard and have fun!
Coach Rey is one of the nicest and most genuine coaches I’ve ever come across! He runs an incredible gym with so many friendly people within it. Top notch technical instruction in a friendly and warm environment.
I knew Rey from 20 years ago when he used to work for Kee’s Tae Kwon Do. While master Kee was the face of the school, Rey did all the hard-work, taught much of the classes, and was even responsible for training and taking his students to tournaments. I was there at the tournament once, and there was no one more interested in his students success than Rey himself. He is someone who is very dedicated to martial art and to his students, and has been in this game for a long time. Beside martial art, he used to teach us about integrity, discipline and respect... and yep, no one is perfect. Underneath the tough facade is a good human being. It will be the best $240 you’ll ever spend. 5 stars overall.
really fun gym with no ego. everyone wants everyone to do better. you can go as hard as you want and train for a fight or just a good sweat after work. Rey and the rest of the people at the gym are friendly and will help if you have questions. if you are thinking of kickboxing you should, it will make you feel great and have a clear mind.
Nearly 20 years ago, I began training with Westside’s owner, Rey. Hands down, Westside is a fabulous place for training and fitness. Personally, I continue to come for the thorough workout - developing combative skills is a great bonus. A true to form martial arts studio, the kickboxing here is serious business. Opposite of the training club stereotype, Westside is extremely welcoming. From owner down, the atmosphere here is simply friendly and fosters community through and through.
Fantastic kickboxing club, great environment to learn a new skill and get fit. Suitable for all levels, great trainers who really pay attention and cultivate a real community feel. Would 100% reccomend, ray and his team make you feel very welcome. If you are looking to make some real progress in fitness or kickboxing I would highly reccomend.
Negative stars! I was very interested in trying a class and had the idea in my mind that I would commit to attending for six months, so I called westside to ask some questions. When I spoke to whoever answered the phone I was completely turned off, this man was downright rude! Business must be booming because the gym seems not to want new customers so I will go spend my money somewhere else. I just talked with the people at Franco's, and they were genuinely lovely. I will spend my money at a business like Franco's that treats customers well.
