I stumbled upon WCS by accident when looking into waitlist times at charter school. Upon calling I was told they specialize in kids with giftedness. I knew our child was special, but everyone thinks their child is “brilliant“ just for saying their first word or walking! Some of my boy’s behaviours were truly astounding, so I looked into giftedness some more and learned so much about asymmetrical giftedness - developing at a fast rate in some areas ie intelligence and slower in others social/emotional skills. We had our child assessed and learned that indeed he was gifted, causing him struggles in daycare previously and preschool because he was on a different wavelength than kids his age. They wanted to play superhero’s and he wanted to build space shuttles with gas tanks and boosters on a crawler transporter at the NASA Vehicle Assembly Plant.nnWe weren’t sure if putting him into a separate school would be helpful or impede his ability to interact with other kids. A friend teacher shared how hard it is on them to have a special needs or gifted child in addition to the others. Accordingly we decided to apply and put our trust in God/the Universe.nnHe got accepted and it has been marvellous! Firstly, the Front Office staff - Noel and Shelley - are SUPERWOMEN with patience of the Saints. So helpful. ALL. THE. TIME. And so forgiving for when I forget/miss something. The epitome of professionalism. Plus both kindness and true caring about both students and parents.nnAnd his teacher blows my mind. I know he has music and PE and Lead classes that he loves, so I’m sure the teachers are great, too. But Ms Makayla Ambrosio is on a level I’ve never seen teachers operate. The activities she and Ms Lofthouse organize are so engaging, and it’s such a pleasure to see the photos and videos they share on the private parent Instagram. And the systems in place to help kids learn to cope with various emotions are ones we transfer to our home and make part of our life, even helping us adults to learn and grow! He loves going to kindergarten. He even said if we ever move away he wants to take Ms Ambrosio and the class with us! Additionally, Ms Abrosio is phenomenally responsive - even after hours ! - and goes out of her way to share resources that cater to specific challenges a child may be dealing with - listening, overreacting, etc.nnThere are few spots available to get into the school for Kindergarten and fewer for grades 1 and up. We consider ourselves tremendously fortunate to have been allowed to join this community and we are deeply thankful to have the opportunity to partake in WCS services to help our child fulfill their potential.
One of the best schools in Alberta andnespecially in Calgary. Teachers and Administration tries their best to provide and accommodate every child's individual needs with respect to development. They are approachable too. They have great enthusiastic teachers and not to mention names but whomsoever we encountered all are best in their areas. Not that easy to get admission into this school as their selection process is one of the best.
Best place ever for kids to grow up and find out their talents
The emphasis is not about high academic performance. The emphasis is about helping your child's inner strengths and challenges in order to reach his/her's potential.
