Last night I brought my wife and 2 kids to this place.nI liked the 3 kinds of seafood with gai lan vegetables the best.nThe dish may seem oily at first glance by nowadays standard but the oil was so hot it kept the whole dish at the right temperature until we finished.nReally great cook, so great that this traditional way of cooking reminded me of the good food and time I shared with my old man when I was still young in Hong Kong.nMy old man passed away years ago and my 2 kids have now become young adults.nI am not sure if such good food would still be around for my grandchildren.nI am gonna treasure it while it still lasts and I hope you would also get a chance to try it.
It has been a while since our family has come here. In this age of shrink-flation, it was refreshing to see that the dim sum was still a reasonable price. In fact, while other restaurants have reduced their portions, Western Lake has jumbo-sized their dim sum!nnWe ordered the usual favorites, shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, and the flavours were spot on, not over salted and not too much MSG.nService was prompt and portions are a very good size for families with teenagers! Each dish was about $10, which is par for the course these days in Vancouver.
Western Lake is one of my favorite dimsum spots and the only issue is the smaller size of the restaurant can lead to longer wait times in the weekend in particular.nnGoing on a weekday like Thursday etc is definitely better for seating and reserving a table days in advance is still recommended.nnThe ha gao and sui mai here are on the larger side and classic dimsum dishes I always enjoy, plus the beef rice roll. The only dimsum item they sorely miss is the fried taro puff/dumpling.nnThe service is often very good and the staff is nice and helpful if you need a recommendation based on what you like.nnPrice is pretty standard and will put you back from around $35-$45 per person depending how much you eat. Price is within range of all the better dimsum places our there.
A long-time favourite family go-to for big round table gatherings! The set menus with king crab or lobster are consistent and always wonderful! Yesterday’s à la cart order for 13 people did not disappoint. The lobster was flavourful and each dish was special. The restaurant offered their free baked sago pudding with mashed taro dessert as well as fluffy longevity lotus root peach buns for the birthday celebration. Everything was delicious!
Friendly service and huge dumplings. Their siumai was the size of my palm and packed with shrimps. If you come in small groups during peak hours you will have to share tables with other guests in smaller groups as well, since they’re quite busy and seating is limited. We enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend to anyone craving dim sum.
