Story

Our original cafe opened in 1993 in Downtown Kalamazoo on the corner of Kalamazoo Ave and Water St. (hence the name). The building dates back 1934, originally housing Triangle Gasoline and Service station; the oil change pit is where our current dining area resides. When you’re at the downtown Water Street Coffee Joint, don’t forget to look UP to find the traditional starburst logo mirrored in the light fixtures.

In addition to offering our house roasted coffee (always fresh on tap or bagged up to take home), this location has a full espresso bar menu including some featured house favorites: the caramelly Dolce de Leche, the chocolatey Sleeping Bear Mocha and the highly caffeinated Iced Coffee with a BANG. Other beverages include a extensive loose-leaf tea menu, hot chocolate, cider, iced tea, shakes, smoothies and more. For a full list of drinks, check out the menu below.

To go along with your coffee, Water Street Coffee Joint is a great place to grab breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. We serve fresh baked goods made daily. Lunch options include homemade soups, sandwiches, salads, savories and the most incredible desserts, all made by hand using real ingredients in our very own kitchen. Indoor and outdoor patio seating is available at this location, along with an ever-changing selection of home brewing equipment, travel mugs, t-shirts and other coffee paraphernalia. Local art exhibits are hosted on a bi-monthly basis and feature a variety of media.
