Posting here because though we were impressed with the Water Babies teaching style, their business practices are bordering on unethical, and from a customer service perspective, they were excruciating to deal with and disrespectful of our time. After 8 lessons, hoping my daughter would warm up to the water babies style of swimming lessons, I had to remove her from the pool due to hyperventilation. At this time, we notified them we wouldn't be attending any more classes. As I know they have waiting lists for their lessons, I came to them with three suggestions: A get a refund for the 5 remaining classes paid in full their billing cycles are predatory, requiring you to cancel 5 weeks in advance to not end up overpaying, no matter the reason. B receive a credit to use at a later time, even if it's a year from now C transfer our 5 lessons to another family in the neighbourhood that we know would have taken our spot. Water Babies responded by having their Aquatics Instructor call us and lecture us on "exposure" and question our decision to remove our child from the lesson when we did Why did it take 3 months of lessons and our cancelation for them to offer this form of "support?" I then waited 17 days to hear from Water Babies again, they finally called after i resent an email following up on my call it took them 11 days to get back to an email! . Their approach to "resolution" was to be unapologetic about their predatory billing cycles, pay no mind to my daughter's well being, and offer absolutely no real resolution. They kept me on the line for 15 minutes, re-explaining their billing cycle, any time I tried to move towards resolution I would be told that if I let them finish their "explanation" we could "resolve". In the end, there was nothing. Just a massive waste of my time and my family's money. The worst part of this situation is that I had no issue with their teaching style or lessons, it just didn't work for my daughter. I was happy and excited for others to use our spot, unfortunately they took a situation that could have had an easy solution, and made it painful and lousy. I would not recommend Water Babies to other families at this point, and would advise anyone signing up to make sure you understand the confusing billing cycles, and know ahead of time that there is absolutely no empathy or good will extended should you need to cancel.
Warning, if you enroll for one term e.g., summer term you are automatically enrolled in the next term fall term and charged 5 weeks in advance. They don't do refunds. Sure, it's "in their policy" so they are merciless and unapologetic about this technicality, but it's extremely unclear that the monthly charges continue outside of the term that you enroll in. Our experience has been mediocre at best, the classes are crowded and rushed, and it's not worth the money. In reply to your comment, no, I will not "rest assured" because it was not made "very clear at the time of booking" that this monthly subscription would continue beyond the term I registered for. Also, yes you do have terms, when I registered I was given the dates and prices for July, August, and September with the caption "Summer Term Details." If these terms actually don't exist, then you should not refer to them as such. This kind of subscription model is incredibly predatory to people with disabilities and new parents in general who are adjusting to a newly increased mental load, especially when the terminology is unclear and you are given the monthly dates for a certain "term" when you register. Also, Netflix is a lot less expensive than $150 a month, so that's hardly a fair comparison.
Swimming class with my 16 month old son was amazing with the help of teacher Raha. She made my son and I feel comfortable and confident in the water. Very good teacher!
It's really hard to decide whether to give Water Babies Toronto 2 or 3 stars. If I were rating the quality of the lessons, faciilities and instruction then I would give 5 starts. If I were thinking about the administration and disorganization then I would give a frustrated 1 or 2 stars. We've done 4 chapters of Water Babies and we're likely to continue because they are the best swim lessons for babies in Toronto. I don't think there's another company or school that offers lessons and instruction of such high quality for infants and toddlers. We love the lessons. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly, they know what they're doing, give us confidence and have helped our little one to become very comfortable and have some skill in the water for a 1 year old. It also gives us confidence to go to the pool on our own with her and play around with some of the activities we do in class. From this perspective I'd 100% recommend. From an admin perspective the company is terrible. There are issues with the pools always, fowling, outbreaks, temperature issues. However, I recognize that's not Water Babies fault. What I do take issue with is how Water Babies deals with the issues. The disorganization is ridiculour. I've also given them several chances to improve before writing this review. I had a long conversation with a manager who told me they would be trying to do better but the same issues happen over and over again. We have now turned up to swim minimum twice but possible 3 times and the session has been cancelled without any notification to us beforehand - despite the pool saying they knew about the issue well ahead of time. It also seems Water Babies doesn't believe they've done anything wrong and have little empathy for taking a trip out to a pool for an excited infant or waking that infant up for a session for that session to be cancelled and them knowing it is cancelled but not telling us. This happens to others that take Water Babies classes as well - other parents shared their experience with us. Now Water Babies is rescheduling two rescheduled classes on the same day. Again, super disorganized. So, if you want to take these classes be prepared to be frustrated and to have to watch what Water Babies and follow up with them because after 4 chapters I don't trust their admin at all.
We are participants in the Water Babies swimming program and we love it. I was looking for something that I could enroll my baby in at an early age, I remember calling Water Babies when my daughter was 7 weeks old and the customer service was great. I got all the information I needed and even a follow up! The upcoming term was beginning when my baby just turned 3 months so we enrolled. It has been great so far, no complaints. My babygirl loves the water and the instructors do an amazing job with the babies and parents especially the nervous ones like me. We look forward to next term!
I love how engaging their instructors are and how fun the classes are for us both! We had Nicolas start at 5 months but I know they can take them as young as mere weeks old; his brother will be starting his first swim class in August! Nicolas loves the water thanks to Water Babies and so does Danielo; I’ve introduced some of the basic songs and activities we learned with Nicolas to Danielo’s bath time routine and he already knows to hold his breath after “Danielo, are you ready? Go!” We’re excited to have classes resume in August; it was the highlight of our week in 2020 quarantine; as the whole process from arrival to changing out, was set-up with everyone’s utmost safety and well-being in mind! I recommend water babies to all moms looking to gain their LOs’ confidence in the water! Water Babies makes water safety fun! Highly recommended!! Kudos to the entire team for all your efforts during these times! Can’t wait to be back in the water!
Waterbabies has been fantastic for our son and us. Their program has made him confident in the water, even at 10 months old. When we went on vacation it was great because we knew how to handle safely while having fun in the pool. Great program and instructors. We will continue with our lessons!
My daughter has swam with Water babies since she was 5 months old now over 2. Her confidence in and around the pool has grown exponentially over that time period. I have found the program to be nothing short of excellent from the administration to the actual in pool program. I would recommend this service for your baby!
