The conditions of the cars that I use with respect to cleanliness is appalling. Pet hair, seats full of stains, salt residue… I’ve been complaining for more than a year, yet little is being done. The customer service and the managers are nice; they claim they have strict cleaning protocols, and they promise taking action but it’s actually getting worse. Ive been a customer for many years and I need the service. I’m leaving this review and will leave many more until someone in this company wakes up and takes responsibility for cleaning it’s cars.
Up until last month, I had been using Communauto for a period of just over 2 years when it was not financially possible to get a car but I still needed occasional access to a vehicle. Over those two years I always had good experiences with customer service reps on occasions when I need help, for example locking my phone in a car or needing help ending a trip when the usb wasn't working. All that said, I've recently had to purchase my own vehicle and it's not very new or fancy, but I'm not sure the company is doing what it's claims to be doing when rates have gotten high enough that I really don't feel like I'm paying that much more a month now that I have my own vehicle. In addition, it seems like there is quite a bit more demand for cars now as it became increasingly difficult over the summer to access a car on weekends without booking at least a week in advance. Wait times to get through to an agent feel like they have gotten longer as well. My main piece of advice if you are going to sign up for the service is to do your due diligence and READ everything. A lot of other reviews mention recurring charges even months after customers have cancelled their service. Part of the model requires customers to lock into year long terms, but I'm dubious about how clearly communicated these financial commitments are.
I really enjoy using this service, its easy, convenient, and the gas and most kms are covered so its quite economical. A huge perk for this company too is they somehow have the nicest customer service staff ever, every time I call or email, I am met with the nicest people.
Great local car sharing company. Been using Vrtucar for a few months and it’s been a convenient way to have access to a car when needed but not being tied down to the ongoing car ownership costs. Using a service like this means no more car payments, insurance, gas and maintenance costs. Only pay a monthly membership fee and time and Kms. Recommend booking in advance if possible, especially for weekends and summer months when cars at most stations are in peak demand. Friendly customer service and there are some newer cars spread throughout the city. Vehicle choices depending on location range from Corolla, Yaris, Prius, RAV4, Volt and cargo vans.
I made use of this company pretty well for a year. It was accessible and convenient for me who doesn’t drive very often, but would like to from time to time. But there’s a lot cons with their systems than pros. The cars are all badly maintained, never cleaned, or checkup upon. Their application development is also subpar, and I can find a few loopholes or bugs pretty easily. With their fees rising up, I hope they improve their development and management. The phone service line is reachable in a decent waiting time, which is good. There are lots of cars available around the city, but they get booked very fast so plan ahead!
Unfortunately, Communauto has really gone downhill over the last year or so. My fob hasn't worked twice over the last month and there are too many members for the number of cars available, meaning that it can be very hard to find an available car to book. The worst part is that when you call for assistance, you wait for a very, very long time to speak with someone. It's really a shame. When it was owned locally it was a five-star business.
Absolutely terrible customer service. I was a member for many years, because even though their fleet are all low-end Toyotas mostly Prius' and dirty old Corollas, it was convenient for short trips that are more than an uber ride. When I purchased my own vehicle and tried to cancel, dealing with Communauto became a total nightmare! Their website said you have to go in-person to cancel, but the office was closed, so I had to wait on hold forever to get instructions to mail in my fob. On top of that, I cancelled November 31st, and I'm STILL being charged in February!! I was charged interest in February for charges in January that I shouldn't have been charged! And because you sign up via credit card, they just take the money; you can't stop it in advance. Now I'm on hold again 18 minutes and counting to get my money back. I'll never be a member again!
I have been a member since 2016 and the service has definitely gone downhill in the last year or two. Cars are old and run down, when they are broken or make noise and you call to get it fixed, it can take months until they repair it. The other day I booked a car and noticed the driver’s door was dented and when I started driving and turning the wheel it was making a horribly loud noise and just didn’t feel right. After 45 min of driving and stopping and checking what was making the noise, I decided I didn’t feel comfortable driving on the highway with this car. Called them to report the issue and say that I’d return the car and appreciate not getting charged. They told me there’s a service call in for the car but that it’s been deemed “safe to drive” and so they will have to charge me for entire reservation even if I don’t use it. I asked if a mechanic had seen the car and they said their team deemed it safe to drive… that’s not acceptable to me, if I’m going to be driving a car at 110 km/h on the highway with my 9 year old with me, it better be fixed and safe. Telling me that you deem it safe does not prove that it’s safe if it’s clear it needs fixing and a service call has been put in to fix it. Not only that, but the car like many in the past year was filthy, pet hair all over the passenger seat and what looked like dripping sticky pop residue all over the car door on the inside I sent them pics. So now I just paid for a dented car that I never used, that makes so much noise it’s embarrassing to drive, and is disgusting inside…. This is a service that we pay for, yet this company acts as if they are doing us a favor by letting us use their beat up cars. It’s such a shame, 2016-2019 was excellent, I didn’t call once to complain. Now unfortunately I’m looking into to buying a car. To those who mentioned on here that they are being charged for months after canceling their membership, you should call the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint. I won’t hesitate to call if I keep having issues.
I’m honestly shocked by these horrid policies and wish I had read reviews before I started using this service. I reserved a vehicle and the battery died while I had the car parked at my destination. No longer than one hour I was told I would have to wait an hour for roadside assistance. An hour in the freezing cold during a blizzard certainly does not feel like an hour! The agent told me they would extend the trip to accommodate for the time waiting for things to be sorted on their end and roadside. Little did I know that I would be charged for the extended time of this reservation! The agent made zero mention of this and the supervisor did absolutely nothing to mitigate the situation besides accusing me of leaving the car on. I have a few more reservations booked that I will keep only because it’s too short notice to find an alternative, but following this I will not be continuing with this service. With the increased rates AND the perpetual filth of these vehicles, it simply isn’t worth the headache.
I originally subscribed to Communauto for the social mandate, the fact it’s an ecological way to still access a car and yet not buying one, to simply use it as needed, and all. It’s been one of my worst financial decisions. The company has a chaotic billing system. The bills are exorbitant and the calculation is confusing. My bills come twice to me every month and every time I contact the customer service support, they admit to me they don’t understand why this happens and the problem is never addressed. After a couple of months I have stopped using their services because I figured I might as well just get a car!!! I have stopped using the service completely in July but 4 months later I am still getting charged. Tried contacting customer services, no success. Tried going to their office, it was empty and no response for 1-hr. Tried e-mailing, no response too…. Really disappointed by the experience and really don’t subscribe really!!!!
