If you are looking for a college that prioritizes your success in education and your career as an HCA, VCC may not be the right choice. It is deeply disappointing that the institution has ignored reports of teachers engaging in bullying, harassment, unfair treatment, unprofessional behavior, and a lack of support for students.nnDespite numerous complaints, the administration has failed to address these issues effectively. Instead, they have promoted instructors with a history of complaints to higher positions, further enabling a toxic and unproductive environment.nnStudents deserve respect, support, and accountability from their educators and administration. Meaningful change is long overdue at VCC to create a positive and professional learning environment. Shame on VCC!
I experienced abuse by an instructor employed by the VCC LPN program.nI was berated in front of my peers, and staff at the clinical site on multiple occasions.nnI reached out to the department head for advice following an incident with the instructor, but unfortunately the instructor’s behaviours toward me only intensified.nnThis instructor told me that nothing I do will ever be enough. She manipulated me into being honest and vulnerable about my feelings in meetings with her. She then weaponized the things I shared with her.nnThroughout the program I maintained A’s in all courses. However one instructor got to make the final decision.nnDuring the final week of clinical I was given a CLA, and if I did not meet the conditions of the CLA, I would fail. The CLA included falsified claims regarding my performance in clinical. I raised this concern with the department head, and was told that the claims “were not up for debate”. Ultimately, it was my word against the instructor’s word, and naturally the instructor’s word was believed over mine.nnThere is naturally a power imbalance in a student-instructor relationship. The LPN program at VCC has some incredible, inspiring instructors, that use their position of power to empower their students.nnHowever this instructor chooses to use her power in a negative, harmful manner. Unfortunately, the department head, and clinical coordinator remained bystanders, and condoned this abusive behaviour.nnI had the opportunity to re-enrol the following term. However, I do not feel safe continuing my education at VCC as the department head, and clinical coordinator now have bias. I do not trust that I will be treated fairly. It is not worth sacrificing more money, or my mental health at this institution.
I went to register today and I can tell you it was a an absolute nightmare!nLong line up and only one counter open and the processing is very slow.nAnd if you are not white or asian, good luck with your registration process.nPlease allow 3 hours for your registration process if you decide to attend this facility.nSo you can have enough time for arguments with the staff.nRacism and unprofessionalism are the best description for my today's visit!
On Sept 03rd we had meeting about RN program for my relative with Academic Advisor Denise Holiday of VCC. Denise is very helpful, humble and professional. She not only provided guidance but also went out of way to assist in all the procedure in depth for RN program. Our community needs excellent professional like Denise Holiday and as a retired Physician I strongly recommend students and family to take her professional help. Please continue excellent work.
