Valley Tire Limited is one of the oldest, independent tire dealers in Canada. Situated on Oakdene Vale (commonly known as "the foot of Gallows Hill" or "Mosquito Hollow") it began as a tire vulcanizing shop in December 1921.
When Harold Quigley purchased the business in July 1974, tires were often "broken down" in the showroom. Renovations and expansion began in 1975, and have been on going ever since. The heavy-duty truck bay and warehouse were completed in 1986 and in 1998 a major warehouse expansion was added. Valley Tire, Kentville employs 13 people. Valley Tire, Bridgewater was opened in 1994 and is a full service outlet that employs 13 people. Valley Tire Halifax was opened in 2013 undergoing a major renovation and is now a full service outlet that employs 4 people.
Harold attributes his success to product quality, product knowledge and customer service. Being in the tire industry since 1965, he has seen many changes, but since owing his own business it comes back to product quality, product knowledge and customer service. The dealer must have an excellent knowledge of their product in order to sell that product to the customer and ensure that customer will return. Harold and his sons, Stephen and Derek are recognized BF Goodrich T/A Masters. All employees must attend technical seminars to upgrade their knowledge of an ever-changing market.
The customer who takes the time to come to your shop must be made to feel he/she is of the utmost importance! Today's customer wants to feel confident that they are getting "good value" for their dollar and in order to instill that confidence, the dealer must know their product! It works! We have regular customers who have been with us since 1974.
