The most fabulous Hospital I have ever been in! Its towering look astonished me because I never in my life had seen such a huge and highly decorated Hospital. I'm from 3rd world country and as soon as my foot stepped inside I felt like I ended up in cyberpunk.nI wish I could live in there. It feels overwhelmingly futuristic and I love it!nThe only paintings in the Hospitals in my country were patterns of falling out paint on the walls.
Emergency waiting area is very crowded and not clean. Smells very bad. I came with the ambulance and I had heart condition and they put me to set at the Emergency waiting area for 5 hours, they did take blood test and ECG but no one knows from the staff when I will be seen by the doctor. I decided to leave the hospital thinking it will take another 5-10 hours.nI am wondering if the hospital principal or the premier or health minister would set in the Emergency room for long time?nI know that the staff at the front desk are overloaded but the hospital management should find a solution to help patients and staff.nHealth care isnot free because we pay for it from our taxes.nHope the government will take care of the Healthcare system and improve it.
On August 16, 2025, I was a patient at this wonderful hospital with a shattered ankle bone. Everyone that worked with me in the 3F3 02-2 is wonderful, considerate, and nice. There were nurses who genuinely cared about the patient. The housekeeping staff's Lina was also really kind. Excellent staff at a great hospital! God bless everyone!
For being a world renowned hospital, they sure don’t focus on cleanliness. I have never been in a more filthy hospital, in my life. Do you watch your janitors work? They push dirt around and leave it there. Someone puked in the waiting room and it sat there for almost 30 minutes before anyone tried to clean it up. What’s worse is the fact you don’t know what kind of care you’re going to receive. Maybe 10% of the nursing staff are helpful. I get it. You deal with a lot of difficult people every day. Picture sitting with an ill family member in the middle of the night and nurses are being loud and laughing at 3am. Yes. You’re on night shift. But people need rest. But can you say anything? No. Because they can translate that as abusive behavior and will no longer help you.nnThe nurses did make the visit difficult, but honestly, it’s the insane lack of hygiene that shocked me. SHOCKED me. Again, you’re a world class establishment and you can’t even find people to clean decently. I’ve been to most of the hospitals in the city and the U of A hospital is hands down the most filthy hospital I’ve ever been in. Is that how you want to be known?nnThe doctor was pleasant - but it doesn’t make up for the lack of general care and disgusting lack of cleanliness.nnYou should really be doing walkthroughs, daily, and holding the cleaning staff accountable. You’re a hospital. So disgusting. You should be embarrassed for people to see your hospital in that state. How can you properly treat people when they are trying to recover in a literal cesspool. University of Alberta Hosptial, do better. I wouldn’t be shocked if most people leave there sicker than they were before they got there. Yuck.
Biggest tip: the website is fooling you. Wait times are about double what it usually displays. Pack some food and drinks. Maybe a laptop or iPad to watch a movie. A book. A blanket to nap. Most important of all, bring PATIENCE. You’ll be waiting a LONG while! Though the staff is awesome and the place is clean.nnI needed a brain scan due to some unusual pains I was having to ensure everything was okay. I waited for about 12-13 hours, and mind you when I came the waiting room was not very full. I expected a long wait time of course as this is the city, but I didn’t realize I would be waiting this long. So do be wary if you’re wanting to do a walk in, try come in much earlier than you planned. Chances are you’ll be sitting for at the least 4-6 hours.nnOf course, this is NOT the staffs fault. Just the system! Everyone was incredibly warm, kind and friendly. I’m anxious in hospitals, and they made me feel incredibly comfortable while I waited. The nurse who had to do some tests on me before I went to the front desk certainly was my favourite. She was so nice . The staff here truly do their best to their ability to make the experience as good as possible! 10/10 staff!nnYes, there is homeless and some oddballs here, but their security is top notch from my own observation. They apprehended a guy quickly before he even had a chance to walk into the waiting room! Super nice people too. Often smiling with coworkers which makes them much less intimidating to approach if you may have an issue!nnNow for the experience itself. After I finally got to see a doctor ten hours later, they rocked! He was super kind, understanding, and actually cared about my concerns and took my explanation seriously. I didn’t feel talked down to at all! While they were giving me some IVs to help with the pain, they put me in a quiet space on a comfy couch that could recline, AND a warm blanket! The amount of courtesy and care I was given was shocking. The staff clearly love their job, and care for their patients. Even though I was here til late, I am not upset at all at the wait. The staff is top notch, and you won’t get any better service than here !nnLuckily no internal injuries! So they gave me a prescription to help with my head pains if they stay constant. They allowed me to stay and sit in the waiting room until I safely got a ride home as well, with a warm farewell. Genuinely the best experience I’ve ever had at a hospital. I cannot recommend it enough
