The staff welcomed us as we walked in. We came for some clothing and there was a large selection of shirts and sweaters. We left with some new bunnyhugs for fall.
I’m not a UBC student but I live locally and needed materials engineering logbook for my school work online. The lady working asked for my student number, I told her I didn’t have one and she said “... why are you here then?” and her general attitude toward me made me feel really uncomfortable. Then she made me give her my drivers license number?? Not sure how that’s relevant, it’s actually a privacy concern for me. Where I go to school, people come on campus all the time who don’t go there to buy merch for their kid or whatever and it’s never an issue. I’ve never felt this alienated at a store before. Won’t be going back.
Expensive but good quality. Make sure that if you're not buying your textbook from here, that you don't need launchpad online portion for the class. Launchpad is included in new textbook purchases, but almost the same price as the textbook on it's own.
Lines are pretty long during first semester, but that is to be expected. They really shouldn't allow backpacks in though as things get really crowded with them. Books listed by author rather than by course, which just makes things harder to find. Staff are really nice and always helpful though
It would be easier to find textbooks if they were arranged by subject/course instead of by author because the printed book lists are often difficult to read and determine who the author is. I've asked the same question to multiple employees and get a different answer every time. It would be nice if it was laid out better so that at the beginning of the semester when there are 100 people waiting to purchase, the lineup doesn't block all the aisles. I definitely recommend going to Okanagan Textbook Exchange first if your books are available there, and also checking the Green Text store.
Pretty good bookstore. Book prices are obviously a much better deal if you buy online though. Lanes are very small and it's very hard to walk around in here. At least they have lots of people working. Hard to find what you're looking for.
Their prices are too high and rip you off with their access codes! I recommend the used bookstore in UNC building. They sold me a non-refundable access code for $34 when I only need it for 6 weeks and can get it with a monthly subscription of $2.99. The access code wasn't even a scratch type to show that I haven't even used the code.
They have a decent selection of UBC clothing and collectables. They also carry many basic school supplies along with textbooks. The primary problem with the bookstore is their prices are somewhat higher than at most local businesses and shopping websites.
What's not to like? A great resource and friendly staff
Great staff and lots of selection, however it is on a pricy side
