Took my mother in to the ER yesterday. Short wait time. Excellent service by registration staff, nursing staff, and physician. Was seen by James Hines, PA. Was probably the nicest and most caring physicians I've ever met! My mother was admitted. Nursing staff were wonderful...especially Shelly! Facility is so nice and clean. Lucky to have such a nice local hospital! It has made many positive changes over the years!

I had an amazing experience giving birth here. First off, the OB/GYN clinic is amazing; the staff is super friendly and I actually looked forward to my routine prenatal appointments so that I could chat with them. Shannon and Julie were usually working at the front desk when I went in and they're both great! Abbie (the OB Care Coordinator) remembered my name every week after only meeting with me one time, even though she has tons of patients. I saw both midwives (Wiseman and Sprague) as well as Dr. Armada and felt good about all of them. Dr. Armada can seem a little too blunt to some people, but he is a genuinely skilled doctor who truly cares about the wellbeing of his patients. When it came time to deliver my baby, I was obviously nervous, but every single nurse in Labor and Delivery made me feel comfortable and safe. Several of them took the time to talk me through some of my fears and concerns, specifically Kyndra the first night, and then for the majority of the rest of my visit (two days), Karol. Despite my initial resistance to routine medical interventions, I was given good information and options to help me make decisions as challenges arose, and nobody ever pressured me or tried to manipulate me to go outside my birth plan (I ended up doing it anyway, but on my own terms, and it was definitely for the best). I was able to feel confident in the staff and eventually I delivered my baby vaginally and with only a couple of very minor tears. I never felt rushed or ignored, my needs were always met and my concerns were always quickly addressed. At my baby's first appointment with the pediatrician, I stopped by the OB/GYN (the office is right next to it) to make a postpartum appointment and everyone came out from their offices to see my baby, which made me feel so good—because they weren't just medical professionals and staff, they felt like my friends. Cheesy, but absolutely true. I was advised by several people not to have a baby at this hospital (most of whom had not ever been here, and I believe were circulating rumors of one or two people's bad experiences that had been going around for several years) and I almost decided to go to Iowa City. However, during an earlier pregnancy when I suspected I might be having a miscarriage, I came here because it was close to where I live (here in Muscatine instead of an hour away), and I felt so good about the environment and how well I was treated that I ignored everyone's advice and came back when I got pregnant again. I don't regret my choice at all. I would have all my babies here.

I always feel rushed and more like a number rather than a patient. But it's the only place in town

I really hate this hospital. The poor quality of this hospital was one of the factors to move to Iowa City. When I was 21 I got into a car accident and went to the E.R. - my neck hurt. The doctor came in after 3 hours and was more concerned with a couple scrapes on my right arm than my neck hurting. I asked for an x-ray and was ignored. 4 hours goes by and I leave and go to Iowa City. (University of Iowa hospital) I had a broken neck. Two surgeries later, I go home and find a nice little bill for neck x-rays taken at the Muscatine hospital that never took place. Also included was an ambulance ride from Muscatine to Iowa City, something else that never happened. When it came to disputing the bill, Trinity's billing departments response was "You can't prove that you didn't get an x-ray, and you can't prove you didn't get an ambulance ride" - Luckily the University of Iowa was able to confirm that I didn't get an ambulance ride, and an attorney was able to prove (after a bit of a fight) that there were no records of an x-ray. I could literally be either dead or paralyzed if I had stayed in Muscatine and went home instead of driving myself to the University of Iowa. All because the doctor thought I was some druggie looking for pain killers. My wife is currently pregnant and we moved after we started seeing an OBGYN in Muscatine. Every single appointment was either canceled or changed within minutes of us showing up. The Doctors act like asking for an Ultrasound is like asking for them to cure cancer. It was a rush-job the entire time, you were in and out within 10 minutes. Doesn't matter if you have questions or concerns. We would see the same doctor (usually you see all 4) each time and she wouldn't know who we were. One time we were 10 minutes into talking about our child having Down Syndrome based on lab results when we didn't even do any lab testing - so she was literally talking about some other family and some other baby having down syndrome.. and I felt super bad for this family I've never met because the doctor was acting like it was nothing. She wouldn't even answer our own questions such as "How do you know our baby has down syndrome when she hasn't submitted any lab samples?" - and then she acts like we are the huge inconsiderate assholes for pointing out she was talking to the wrong people! Also, why the hell does this hospital smell like bad body odor? We went the other day and it was 80 degrees in the lobbies and smell like arm pits. What the hell is wrong with this place? This place operates more like a factory or a Walmart than a hospital.
