The Food and Book People
The Traveler Restaurant has been in buisness since 1970, serving many commuters who pass by on I-84, and also the local residents of Union, which is the smallest town in Connecticut.
The previous owner who was an avid reader decided he had to thin out his collection of books, putting them on the shelves of the restaurant seemed a good way of getting rid of them. The idea caught on to say the least, we presently give away one or two thousand books a week - about 100,00 a year. A tradition, the Murdock Family is carrying on. Books come to us from many different sources. Libraries are one of the best, providing us with leftovers from sales and books weeded from their shelves. Other soucres are auctions, flea markets, book fairs, and private homes. Many of our books are acquired from our customers, with accumulations of their own. Our hope is that each and every one of guests find a book to their liking on our shelves, and we hope to promote reading.
