This lunch spot is a gem. Each and everything I've ever had is delicious. SANDWICHES...yes! Soups....yes! Desserts...yes! Then you walk over a grab a book! What more could you want?!?!
I unfortunately moved away and hadn't had the opportunity to be back in almost 10 years. It's exactly how I remember. The service is always efficient, kind and so much quicker than you'd expect for a lunch rush. Their food meals are filling with excellent portions and the deserts are somehow even better than everything I had already described.
If you love vintage and you love books then this is the place for you. From their unique layout with crystal chandeliers mixed with original creaky wood floors this shop feels like art. So grab a book or two and take a sniff because what reader doesn't love the smell of print.
i wanted to like this restaurant a lot more :/ the bookshop was so cool. unfortunately we waited for an hour since they don’t take reservations which i understand is just sometimes the policy. the food was very good though! after thirty minutes, with food recently delivered, we were explicitly encouraged to leave our tavme. as we walked to our cars the waitress followed us asking why we did not tip although we had left cash on the table instead of with the card. as a server myself, the utter disregard for respect made me upset :/ i could never imagine asking a table who waited for a while to leave so quickly, and then be disrespectful about a tip. the bookshop is still amazing and so cool, just would not recommend dining there.
Absolutely perfect place for lunch! Soups, salads, and sandwiches are always delicious!!! Definitely worth stopping by for a bite to eat! Give them a try!
**Lactose Intolerant Cheat Meal Review** This spot is one of the most unique shops I've ever been to. If you're a bibliophile this is a spot for you. They have an extensive bookstore and a dining area for brunch. I'm lactose intolerant but every now and then I opt for a lactase pill. This was one of those days. I've heard about the legendary quiches here so I didn't want to miss out. The quiche was great and the cup of soup was too. My reaction to the quiche was basically non-existant so I will be going back again. The location was packed inside but there was only about a 10-15 minute wait to get a seat. We could also go walking around while waiting and look at the building and books. The building is a historic landmark so that alone makes it a great reason to come see it. *Everyone has a different reaction to lactose intolerance. This is my personal experience. Don't assume you will have the same.
Town House Books is a charming and beautiful bookstore located in a lovely area of downtown St. Charles! You are immediately overcome with a feeling of peace here. The staff members I have interacted with have been friendly, helpful and excited to help you find your next read or place an order for something they might not have on their shelves! Book prices are to be expected and in-line with any other brick-and-mortar store. The café is delicious and very affordable for the quality and portions of food, as well as the atmosphere and service. Sit outside if the weather permits, their patio is wonderful! I have only visited a handful of times, as it is a bit of a drive from me, but I now consider myself a regular customer and look forward to my next visit which will be very soon.
Cute cafe with many book options. The food was pretty good and decent prices. I would bring extra layers next time since the restaurant was pretty chilly. Our drinks were cold by the time they made it to our table.
This is definitely one of St. Charles hidden gems. Most find this hidden gem when googling for bookstores. I love this place and have been here many times over the years. The smell of books, food, bakery goods and the sound of old creaky floors. This bookstore has a small cafe attached that is usually packed. The patio is divine in the warmer months. I’ve tried so many things here over the years. Some of my faves are vegetable club, townhouse reuben ranch on the side, avocado tuna melt, lea’s grilled cheese, apple roast pork, all their cold salads egg, tuna, chicken, and even their main salads. The quiche is to die for!! Homemade chips, fruit salad dried cranberries, apricots, lemon juice. You can take home deli meat, whole quiche, soups, salads, platters, fixings, bakery goods. Don’t get me started on the soups and bakery goods!! On the weekends the cafe offers a brunch menu which is just as tasty as there lunch menu. The chips are homemade and delicious. I can go on and on. All I can say is definitely come hungry and be prepared for a small wait. This place will never disappoint!
Townhouse Books Café is one of my favorite places. You can dine alfresco when the weather cooperates. The soups, salads, and sandwiches are unique and flavorful. The servers are upbeat and friendly. If you have to wait, and that's pretty much the norm, don't fret. It'll be worth your time.
