Open space camp ground. Not many trees. Not crowded. Not much great hiking on this side of the park. Saw moose and elk near the camp ground. Cold nights 30s, warm days. We layered the inside floor of our tent with cardboard boxes for insulation. Placed sleeping pads on top and then had sleeping bags. Worked great to help stay warm!
Was very nice camp ground. Sites were setup well. We camped in a rooftop tent. The site we had was okay for this but we could have picked much better sites. Our site was perfect for a regular tent camper. The bathrooms were clean and had flush toilets and running sink water. No showers. The view was very nice too. Had panoramic view of the mountains. Each site seemed to have good spacing and small trees or shrubs to keep you with a little privacy. I would recommend this campground. Sorry but all of my photos are on my Sony camera. Will upload later.
Really well-maintained and large campsite. We stayed on site 72, which was a walk to site. The walk was may be 15 yards, very manageable even with a lot of stuff. It was great to be facing away from the campground and have some privacy, while walking around we noticed a lot of the other areas were quite crowded.
Beautiful spot and great access to clean restrooms. Make sure you are aware of the overnight temperatures in late May, and pack accordingly. We had just enough to make it through the night with us got down to 35 F o_O. Underestimated that... lol. Also they have bear lockers nearby, camp fire areas and picnic tables. You it's pet friendly, but must be on a leash at all times. We will come back again, with a new reservation of course.
Stayed here with the family for 3 nights and it was great. The moose randomly wandering through the camp is no joke. It's nice to be only 10 minutes or so from Grand Lake for necessities. I highly recommend the Never Summer Wilderness and hiking Baker Gulch if you don't like big crowds or can't get a Beaver Lake Corridor pass. We will definitely stay again!
It is a well managed campsite to be in for couple nights. The nearby trailheads is good too. If you like to watch sunrise or sunset then you would have to wake up early and drive a little further up the elevation since the campground is in a valley. We were there in full moon night but I bet the star gazing would be awesome from the site. The rangers are roaming frequently for security. The campground also has multiple Bear Protective Food Storage. All you gotta do is pack your foods and keep it in a container near your camp site. Make sure you get a walkie talkie if in groups. The network is a bit poor in the area.
Loved this campground! I was a little concerned about black bears, I’m from Texas and we don’t have them, but never saw any. There are lots of bear-proof food storage lockers as well as trash cans/recycling bins around with bear safety tips posted. The grounds are amazing with views of the snow capped mountains and near the Colorado River. Plenty of points of interest nearby. You’ll have to drive into Grand Lake for supplies such as firewood, ice and water but it’s a short, and beautiful, drive. I saw plenty of wildlife including moose, elk, chipmunks, deer and antelope. Heard a wild turkey early in the morning. There are no showers at this campground but I brought body wipes so I was comfortable. The bathrooms were clean, the campground was quiet and the park rangers held educational programs which were interesting. If you’re thinking about camping in the Rockies, this is a great place to do it!
Very clean restrooms and campground attendants. Take care to watch your firewood, ours was lifted during the night. Also, note that there is not a shower at this location. There is a little creek just on the outskirts of the campsite that’s beautiful. Great location to escape from the crowds of the tourist attractions in and around Estes Park.
Arrived Friday 7/26 around 2 pm and got a great site! It was full later in the evening, and the next 3 days. Stayed 4 nights. Cabana shade blew over on sat while we were gone hiking all day. We did stake it but the wind must have been too strong. Monday was the best day- no clouds for hiking to emerald lake. Nice clean place to stay. Lots of elk, even saw moose. Evening program was interesting.
A pleasant campground to stay at. Nice to see the tree regrowth. Only downside is only allowed to stay 7 nights, not the typical 14 at other National Parks.
