Course was in excellent shape, played it twice in late season! Both times unfortunately we're a little wet and windy but a very fun and well crafted course! Bunkers could use a little bit of loving but tee boxes are good, fairways are nice and greens are nice and quick! Get to pass the "halfway house" about 3-4 times on your round, which is fantastic! Beautiful scenery and nice layout to the course!
The good: fairways and greens are in excellent condition, and the starter and marshal were very friendly. The bad: like others have said, the bunkers are in bad shape, and so are some of the tee boxes. We played at 9am, and it wasn’t busy. But there wasn’t a blade of grass to be found on some of the tee placements. This would be a beautiful course if they filled in the bunkers with some nice white sand!
Took a group of 16 here for a guys trip. The staff/marshals couldn't have been nicer to us from the moment we stepped foot on the property. The full price weekend rate is a bit steep for what this course is, but overall the greens were in good condition. This is a shot makers golf course, you won't get to pull the driver out on every hole. Addressing some of the earlier reviews about bunkers, it looks like most of them have grown in now and don't look as patchy as some of the photos from earlier in the season. I would bring a group here again simply for the atmosphere.
Really great first time experience at thundering waters. Marshalls were super friendly, facilities were nice. Lots of variety, so youre not just driving every hole. Greens ran well and true, and quite tricky to approach. Also unqiue scenery, despite being nestled in a housing complex. Bunkers were awful though. Need to upkeep if youre gonna have so many near greens. Used an underpar so definitelt got my moneys worth, but will try to come again!
Tough course with many risk reward type holes. Unfortunately, the sand bunkers were in poor condition but the greens were well kept and holding. Overall, a positive experience but the pace of play could have been better. First round was 4:45 with groups in front and replay was done in 3:10 with no one around.
Good Golf course, but Not as it was. Lack of Maintenance. Bankers are horrible Hard as Concrete... Fairways and Greens are Not that bad.
Thundering Laughter - aka WHAT. A. JOKE. This golf course, sadly, is perfectly analogous to John Daly's career - from a distance it looks illustrious, refined, and worthy of the highest praise...but when you take a closer look, you're disappointed to see that it's rife with serious neglect, riddled with poor decisions, and littered with beer cans Literally...no joke...there are beer cans & bottles ALL over the course, just a few feet off the cart paths on most holes. Anyone who works on the grounds crew at this course should be utterly ashamed of themselves. Mangled teeboxes, dry, sandy greens, and the bunkers...MY GOD, THE BUNKERS!. Just see my attached photos for a few examples of what this place considers passable for sand traps. On one hole we saw two kids raking a trap, which we thought might be a promising sign. But they did half of the one trap and left...completely ignoring the other 4 traps around the green. How it is that a John Daly course can only be 6700 yards from the tips is beyond me. Oh, and those "Daly Tees"? Some of them are barely bigger than a yoga mat. I was a little surprised to see that they didn't sell any logoed gear in the pro shop, but after playing there, I know why. I sure as heck wouldn't want to pay money to advertise this course...especially considering I'm mad enough that we paid money to PLAY it.
Nice layout. Pretty good shape but the bunkers need work, not really much sand, need to pick them off.
Thundering Waters is one of our favourite courses. Besides the course being beautiful, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. My husband bought me a triple bogey golf bag last year, and when he called ahead to ask if they could hold the Triple Bogey cart for me for our round, they had it ready and waiting for me. We try to golf there at least once a year. This year we got there twice, and we will be back next year!
Not what it used to be. Bunkers were mud. Not wet sand... mud, and some completely grown in with weeds. Inexpensive though, otherwise may have been less stars. If you’re looking for the John Daly experience, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Whites are <5100 yards, blues 5700ish.
