The setup is weird. You order at the delicatessen and then leave. You then go next door to the bookstore and hang a right into an eating area. Looking past that though - the food is amazing! Easily one of the best sandwiches I've eaten and the lobster bisque was perfect. I walked away full and with the feeling that I need to return and try out the rest of the menu.
This place is really a neat little gem. I don't make it out to Mason very often but I'll make the trip specifically to visit. Great selection of delicious sandwiches and pasta salads. Various niche sodas and other snacks. Decent wine selection in an actual bank vault. It's a really cool aesthetic being an old bank. I can't say enough good things about this place. Wish the portions for the pasta salad were a little bigger but it's still top 5 sandwich shops in the Lansing -area and certainly one of the best in Mason. If they were open Sundays I'd go every week.
Food is great, cute little shop. Although pesto needs more flavor doesn’t taste like pesto lol only complaint.
I was craving a good cornedbeef sandwich. I don't like mines with krout. I prefer it with coleslaw. I got on line last night. Found this place. And prepared myself to go today!!!!! It is a cute quaint little shop. When I came in. I was acknowledged immediately by 2 wonderful warm young people. I place my order. This extremely delicious stuffed pepper soup. I believe the sandwich was the Brooklyn maybe??? Essentially it was a Reubens with coleslaw. I did not know they served it hot. And they were kind enough to remake it for me. I felt really bad. But they were so sweet. I also had a side of potato salad. Everything was delicious. It hit the spot. Was exactly what I needed. I will most definitely be back to try more things. The customer service alone is worth another trip. The food being wonderful was a bonus. Lol.. I read reviews. And I must say. I am definitely a quality over quantity person. But the sandwich was more than enough for me. I will be eating more of it later tonight. If I had to pick 1 thing that could have been better. I'd say there should have been more coleslaw. It was such a tiny amount. But it was still delicious. I found my sandwich. Now I'm going to explore more of their soups and sides. If you stop by to order. And you have preference of hot or cold. There is an H next to all hot sandwiches. So you don't make the same mistake I did.....
This was our first time here and they were very busy at lunchtime when we arrived and ordered, so quite possibly that contributed to the slight shortfalls. Took quite awhile to get our orders and we took them next door where seating is available at the book store. The sandwiches were not nearly as large as I expect from a deli, just not that much meat with a few smears of the condiment which was not even close to covering the bread surface, and they entirely forgot the cheese for one sandwich. What there was was quite good--the bread and the fillings--just not very good portions. We would definitely try them again on the chance that this was just a bad day but at more of an off time so that they are not overly busy.
Lovely delicatessen with friendly and helpful staff. Food was great and the seating in the coffee shop next door was pleasant. Good place to stop in Mason.
I like this deli, good selection and high quality. Pros: Highest quality sandwiches and deli selection in the area. Beer/wine/soft drink/juice selection is very good. Service is good. Soups are always good too. Perfect for having a picnic or taking home. Cons: Waits are a little long, awkward check out process and you have to go next door to the bookstore cafe if you don't want it as take out. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. The grocery section seems a little off and is limited.
Amazing!! Such a great deli with amazing staff! 1st time customer and wish I lived nearby to visit more often.
Just had a pastrami, Swiss, spicy mustard on rye there today. Got the half sandwich which was more than ample for me. Pastrami was super lean and the mustard had a nice kick. Very tasty! Also, get the ranch dressing for your side of greens. They make it themselves and it is special. Can't wait to go back to try the corn beef!
WOW! What a treasure! We hosted an event an hour from home in Mason,Mi. I googled and called The Vault and Travis treated us like family. Twenty eight lunch boxes on Sunday, a day they are closed, short notice...... I can't say enough good things about the service. WOW! The food puts the service second! I went in on Saturday to pay and the aroma was incredible. If you're headed to mason you should make the vault your food destination. And if you're driving by it's a great place for a quick bite. Thank again Travis
