Story

The Union Gallery is a non-profit organization committed to increasing awareness and appreciation of contemporary visual arts. The gallery is staffed by arts professionals who work in conjunction with a Board of Directors, which consists of Queen's art students and arts professionals from the university and community. The gallery is open to the public on a regular basis (Tues-Sat. 11-4:30pm.) and everyone is encouraged to attend gallery events and programs.

As well as showcasing university student artists, the gallery presents the work of professional artists with regional, national and international profiles. The program intent is to provide a venue for the presentation of contemporary art, encouraging original, collaborative and experimental ideas and provide a forum for the exchange of information concerning contemporary art practices.

Visit our website http://uniongallery.queensu.ca for everything you need to know about the gallery.

We gratefully acknowledge the support from:
Queen's University, Alma Mater Society, City of Kingston, Kingston Arts Council, and Society of Graduate and Professional Students.

I have been at Queen's University for 5 years both as a BFAH undergrad, and an MA student in Cultural studies. I have always had interest in the gallery as space for emerging artists and seasoned artists alike to connect and form a 'union' pun intended of creation and passion for the arts. For the longest time, I was someone on the outside who walked into the gallery to see a new installation, visit for class, speak with the director of the gallery, or just walk past with the comfort of knowing what the gallery stood for. It had been the most attainable and welcoming entrance into the world I so desired to be a part of, but my shyness and panic towards not fitting the mould that this world dictated became paralyzing. Finally, my urge to be a part of something more, a member of this amazing community, overshadowed my fear. I made my own place in the world I wanted to be a part of, and I sent an email. A simple email which led to the Union Gallery welcoming me with open arms. I joined the game late, but I am so happy I joined at all. I wish I had done this sooner. The cozy reception desk and the flat storage cabinets in the project room were the exact spaces I needed in a time where my creation was falling short. I needed the physical presence inside a space of growth, change, and art in order to kickstart my own mind once again. I am grateful for the Union and hope others will feel the same way in future. Perhaps with a little less fear, and a little more confidence. To the end of an era, but a lifetime of creation. Cheers!
I absolutely adore this space and the amazing artists who not only exhibit their work but also come together to deliver truly innovative and super engaging programming that campus and community members alike can enjoy. There's something for everyone at UG and so many great opportunities for folks to create and collaborate. I'm so happy we have Union Gallery on campus!!!
I love the Union Gallery! The staff are amazing and the exhibitions and programming are so varied and diverse- there is something for everyone. Really appreciate their support of student artists. Great hub for creatives of all kinds on campus and in the wider Kingston community!
Union Gallery is a wonderful and ever-changing student-run and curated gallery. Staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, and the shows are varied, interesting, and of course, beautiful.
