The Ship Tavern

About

Featuring great food, beer, drinks, sports and fun. Always a Chicago sports bar!

Story

The Ship Tavern, or “DA Ship” Tavern as some know it has been around since the early 1900’s. The Exact date is unknown, but as we cleaned the place out early in 2015 we found some early historical pieces that seem to show an origin date of around 1944. The building which originally was part of John’s Market was owned by John himself when we purchased it on Sept 1st, 2015. He told us stories of moving The Ship to it’s current location in or around 1946. We are still searching for old photos and historical items that show the different variations of the Ship over the last several decades.

We’ve made some changes inside and out… Going from having only one beer on tap and just a few in the cooler in the early days, to our present selection of 24 beers and several more canned and bottled products, including several local breweries we rotate in and out. We’ve kept the original cooler as our back bar center piece and in it you can find your old standards, OLY, Rainer, and other tall boy products, but we’ve added a glycol system for our craft beers on tap to keep them cold and refreshing on those hot days. Our new an improved menu features some of the old favorites, chili and hot dogs with some new additions, hot Italian sandwiches and sub sandwiches as well as house made soups and salads.

This is the New Ship with the old feel, gone are the cafeteria seating, and dusty stage, replaced with some new high top buddy bar and family style seating that you can actually feel at home in while enjoying a fresh beverage. We’ve also remodeled the stage area and have added some additional televisions for all the sports games and packages that you are used to. Join us for our Music series featuring local bands. Check out our Calendar or FaceBook page for details.

For Chicago fans, we still cater to you. The old captains removed a lot of the Chicago history, but we are ever-searching for that Chicago legendary piece to bring back in and put on the wall or on the back bar.

Come down to the ship, see what’s going on, and say hi, we would love to meet you!

If you like a dive bar that's isn't too divvy or pretentious then here ya go
Went there for the Chicago Bears playoff game and was not disappointed at the Chicago fan turnout. Numerous TVs and very cool artifacts around the bar. Food was okay, but beers were inexpensive and the entertainment was just what we were looking for. Bear down!
visited fri evening i think. food is like a restaurant in jacksonville i liked.
Laid back, fun neighborhood bar! Good selection of drinks and the staff is always friendly. Video poker, pool, and other games are available. TVs are easy to view but the space does get crowded on weekends especially when live bands have a show or when games occur! The bathroom is also smaller and may not be accessible for everyone.
What a great place just to hang out with a group of friends or just by yourself! The staff are very friendly and attentive. Great beers options... To friend that like ciders you are in the right place. A great place to watch sports and cheering on your teams! The price are very reasonable$$!
Good servers w/ good taste in music. Comfortable. They let me throw my darts til close without feeling like a pain. Meatballs.
These guys rock. Cheap drinks, well made, food if you really need it, friendly and open late. As a local Multnomah Village gay I’ve always felt welcome here.
Rachel is the best! Love Mandy too. Great cocktails and atmosphere!
Definitely more popular than in years past. I believe new owners upped the joint a notch or two.
