I have been a member for more than 5 years and for the first time I’m considering not renewing my membership.nnFor as much money as they are charging for memberships it’s a shame to see so little invested into the facility itself. They have multiple other facilities in the GTA Joe Rockhead’s and UTB that seem to have much higher standards for up keep, so I’m unsure as to why Rock Oasis is being neglected.nnBouldering mats are ripped and worn. The only slab wall has been closed for at least four weeks due to “maintenance”, yet no work has been done on it. The air quality is poor. The main sinks are outdated and full of grime and mold. The overhead lights are constantly burnt out and/or flickering, which affects your ability to climb in some of the bays. Top ropes are often too short to tie/clip into comfortably.nnRock Oasis has a great community, fun setting and welcoming staff, however, the facility is simply not well maintained by the owners and it’s beginning to overshadow the positives. It’s unfortunate to see the lack of care put into this otherwise awesome gym.
Visited a while ago and had a great experience. The place was clean, and had a good variety of climbing routes for different skill levels, but some of the holds could use a bit more maintenance since they were tough to grip.. The staff was very helpful. I’d recommend going in the morning or afternoon since it can get pretty busy in the evening.
Took a first timer class for Bouldering and it was quite helpful. I might wanna try Top Rope too. It looks exciting too.
Checked out this bouldering gym recently, and honestly, I left underwhelmed. The gym is located in a factory area far from downtown, and while that’s not necessarily a dealbreaker, it definitely feels a bit ghetto—especially considering they charge downtown day pass prices. Hard to justify when places like Basecamp or The Hub offer better facilities in much more accessible locations.nnOrientation was mandatory, which I understand for safety, but it felt a bit excessive given how basic the setup is. Staff weren’t particularly friendly or welcoming either, which doesn’t help when you’re new to the space.nnThe climbing area itself was okay, with a decent variety of problems, but the atmosphere was messy—chalk all over the crash pads, and people were sitting or lingering too close to the walls, which makes falls awkward and kind of unsafe. Didn’t feel like anyone was really managing the floor or enforcing good etiquette.nnThey did have a DJ spinning during an event, which was a cool touch, and gave the place a bit of energy. But aside from that, it felt like the place leans more on events and aesthetics than actually offering a top-tier climbing experience.nnIf they want to charge the same price as top-tier gyms, they’ve got a lot to improve—starting with cleanliness, staff vibe, and safety awareness. Not a place I’d return to unless they seriously step it up.
Love this gym! Great for new and seasoned climbers. We started climbing here about a year ago as a family and felt welcome and safe as beginners. With routes being refreshed just often enough to work on projects or have new ones to try, we always find a good challenge here. Kids area is great for parties or a good slow warmup. Bouldering area is full of great energy and a terrific bunch of supportive climbers.
