Story

The Powassan Agricultural Society is a registered charitable organization run by volunteers. New members are always welcome to join for a $5.00 fee.

The Powassan Agricultural Society owns the facilities known as the Powassan Fairgrounds which is home to the Powassan Fall Fair.

Although the fairs mandate has been to promote agricultural awareness within the community, the other non-agricultural events such as the demolition derby, live music shows, wildlife shows, science exhibits, etc. provide a vast array of inexpensive entertaining events for the whole family.

The fair offers a venue for those in the community to showcase their arts, crafts, livestock, produce, etc. If you are looking for a way to give back to your community, come out and join as a volunteer on one of our committees. Our annual fair is supported through fundraising events, donations and partnerships from individuals and businesses throughout our community.

The purpose of the Society is in accordance with the objects as stated in Part 3, Section 28 of the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act of the Province of Ontario (R.S.O. 1990, Chapter A.9) which reads as follows:

The objects of an agricultural society are to encourage an awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of persons living in an agricultural community by,
a) researching the needs of the agricultural community and developing programs to meet those needs;
b) holding agricultural exhibitions featuring competitions for which prizes may be awarded;
c) promoting the conservation of natural resources;
d) encouraging the beautification of the agricultural community;
e) supporting and providing facilities to encourage activities intended to enrich rural life; and
f) conducting or promoting horse races when authorized to do so by a by-law of the society.

The Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) is a unifying body for Agricultural Societies in Ontario which through communication and educational activities provides leadership to the entire agricultural industry.

The fair was a fun experience with lots of tasty snacks to enjoy! We tried the mini donuts, churro bites, and freshly squeezed lemonade, all delicious. The $10 entrance fee feels a little high, but overall it’s a great outing for families and especially fun for kids.
It poured rain. I agree with Meghan M. $10 is quite a bit for such a small fair. Go take a look at the Sutton Fall Fair. $20 entry fee. BUT you get the demolition derby plus a full midway with rides and games plus the horse pull and food vendors and bouncy castles for the kids etc. That's worth it when you get all that. But Powassan's? Sorry. No.
So much could be done to make this a better fair. $10 is too much to charge for such a small fair with very little to see or do.nn*edit - In regards to the response from the owner.nnWhy would anyone want to volunteer for you after the snotty response to a review?nMy 'superior knowledge' I'm sure would fall on deaf ears, since based on other reviews that you have responded to you think the fair is great just how it it.nnNot everyone in the world has children. Lots of adults enjoy going to fairs.nnI hope that your 125th year will be everything you dreamed it will be.
Fun day to spend with the family if you have very young children
Another fun festival, love the crash up derby.
