Mike is the absolute man, he put new stainless steel frets in my 1980's Ibanez shredder and make me love it even more. He knows his craft and I have gotten compliments on his work from every guitarist I have let play the guitar. He's very diligent and I've been trying to decide between recommending him to friends or keeping him to myself. I drive in from out of town 200km and the drive is very much worth it. I'll be a repeat customer and wouldn't think to take my guitars to anyone else from here on out. Thanks Again Mike
Mike Spicer has been repairing and building stringed instruments for over 30 years. He has a deep understanding of vintage instruments and restoration to maintain their value. On one of my guitars, he did a heel restoration on an old Larson flattop guitar. At some point in time someone ran a bolt right through the outside heel to the inside heel block. Mike’s repair was nothing short of miraculous! I highly recommend him.
Mike took the challenge of fixing my mid 90s parlor guitar and adjusting the neck back to playability. I haven't played it over a decade because it was unplayable. I also brought some more instruments in to fix fret-buzz and re-string. All done very well. Highly recommended.
Mike was recommended to me by my regular tech as someone who could handle a very delicate, particular repair on one of my guitars. He did a fantastic job, and the guitar now plays and looks better than it ever has before.
I’ve had vintage guitars repaired all over North America by very skilled luthier‘s. Mike is in a class of his own, an absolute magician. His knowledge of guitar chemistry is simply unmatched. For these exact reasons the wait can be long but very well worth it…every time. Great guy and very humble as well .
I couldn't be more impressed by Peghead. I brought my beat up 1970s Diastone classical and he was able to set it up so it plays like 25 years ago. I then brought him my brand new Yamaha LL16. It was already a great sounding guitar but really hard on the left hand. I could only play it for about 20 mins before my fingers were hurting. After the set up, it's a completely different guitar. It's an absolute pleasure to play. I played for two hours and my fingers didn't hurt at all! I'll be dropping of my Martin D28 this week!
Simply the best guitar repair anywherer. My 50 year old Gibson was destroyed and Mike brought it back to life. I do not exaggerate when I say what others refused to even attempt, Mike fixed perfectly. Someone should do a video like Carmine Street Guitars about Peghead, it is that good. Not a fancy place, just great work at very reasonable prices.
Ok so not to sound too " positive" in my review, but I have not come across a better luthier in Canada then Mike !!! His knowledge, level of craftmanship and professionalism is demonstrated in spade's when you receive your guitar back. Price points on repair's is very reasonable for the exceptional work you get. Mike Spicer is an exceptional tech. I came all the way from Barrie and he knows his stuff very well. He is also a luthier. Don't be fooled by the words "guitar setup" at big box stores. Mike will make your guitar play the way you want to whatever it takes.
I moved to the area and was looking for a good tech, Mike got great reviews and I can now say it’s not hype - Mike at the Peghead is as solid as they come. He is a great guy, great work and at a reasonable price. I will be bringing all my work to him in the future and I would recommend him to anyone.
