My husband and I have eaten at the Nook and Cranny Tatamagouche several times over the last five years. I've also eaten there a few times with a friend when we stayed for a weekend in the area. Our most recent visit was in August 2025 for a late lunch. We were a little concerned because some of the more recent reviews seemed to indicate things may not be as good as we remembered -- but thankfully it was as tasty as always!nnThe restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, and we sat outdoors. The awning kept us cool on a hot day. The restaurant is showing its age a bit and could use a spruce up with some fresh paint, but it's not too off-putting yet. Our server was friendly and attentive and made good recommendations for the food. The vibe is casual and friendly yet professional.nnThe food, as it always has been, was stellar. My husband had a burger with onion rings and I had a rice bowl. Everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and well flavored. I particularly enjoyed the variety of flavors and textures in my bowl. The portions were great. Wouldn't change a thing about our meal.nnWe didn't have dessert this time. In the past, I found desserts were hit and miss. I didn't find they were on par with the flavor and quality of the main meals, as they were sometimes dry or lacking in flavor. I was told they are not made by N&C but by a local baker. Hopefully this is something that will be sorted out in future. This would not keep me from visiting for brunch, lunch, and dinner, as they are all reliably great!
Definitely recommend. We had fried calamari, fish and chips & chicken & avocado taco.nnAll the sauces were I think homemade. The tatar sauce and the cocktail sauce were very good, but the mayo Ailoly I think with the calamari was out of this world.nnThe batter on the fish was thick, but even tho I ordered the fish & chips, I'm not a fan of the batter.nnHome-cut fries! nnGlad we stopped on our way by!
Had lunch with family... got the Cuban sandwich. It was ok... very greasy had a pool of it on plate. They used a dejon mustard instead of a yellow mustard. Wasn't a fan of that. Kids loved onion rings and grilled cheese. Gravy was meh and a bit thick for me. Bison burger was good husband wasn't a fan of the arugula on it. Overall, good experience and great service.
This is easily the WORST restaurant I have ever been to. If I could leave negative stars, I would.nnMy partner and I decided after a long drive to stop in Tatamagouche for lunch, and stumbled upon the Nook & Cranny. The restaurant was busy, but not overly busy and we were seated immediately. Our drinks were served in a timely fashion coffee and juice but the wait for our food was absolutely unacceptable. We waited almost 1 hour – and not once did our server come by to apologize for the wait. It was only about after 40 minutes of waiting she came by to let us know the food would be right out, again no apology. To me, “right out” would mean within the next five minutes, which ended up not being the case.nnOnce our food finally arrived, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. The skillet I ordered – I had to scrape the hashbrowns from the dish as they were stuck to the bottom. I communicated to the server how disappointed we were and asked for our bill as I had no interest in eating the meal. Both my partner and I had maybe two bites of food. After all of this, and telling the server I did not plan to eat the food, I was brought the bill when I asked. I asked if there was anything they could do to compensate the fact that we waited almost 1 hour only to have our meals arrive and taste horribly. I was met with “no there is nothing we can do, and there is no manager on site today.”nnI am still extremely frustrated almost two weeks later that I wasted 40 dollars on a meal I did not even eat. DO NOT GO HERE unless you expect low quality food met with low quality service. I will be letting everyone I know how horrible this restaurant is.
First Off, the Truffle fries were worth the upgrade and Absolutely amazing treat wish more restaurants offered them. The haddock batter was light & crispy Perfection & the Blueberry tartar was a nice newbie for the taste palette. HOWEVER, the service and atmosphere not so great. Inside was hot & humid and ALL the windows were closed not allowing any breeze indoors so had to move outdoors. We sent one whole meal back and was charged for it the waitress left her with the menu for another 20mins before even coming to ask if she wanted something else. We sent back a poutine upgrade and was never asked if he wanted a side replacement. They charged him his whole meal and just took off the Poutine upgrade. He never got another side. I ordered 2pc blueberry haddock and received 1pc regular and was about another 20-25mins wait for my order to return proper. Will stick to the Pictou location.
