The Modern Shop

The Modern Shop has great products, great service, and great shipping. I bought a Foscarini light fixture (on-line), and it looks fantastic. I will definitely order from The Modern Shop again!

Great products, terrible customer experience. Tips for online customers: 1. Call to find out if the product you are looking at in is stock. While most sites clearly show what is in stock and what has a 8-12 week lead time, the Modern Shop does not. Nor do they communicate at any time when they expect things to ship. You will have to ask for that information. 2. If you have any problems (in my case, an item that arrived damaged) don't expect any genuine concern through the process of getting it replaced. I'm not sure why they don't seem to grasp this basic aspect of the customer experience, but they don't. 3. If you write a negative review here before getting your issue resolved, they will tell you to take it down before they will help you - even if they have had plenty of time to act on it but haven't (in my case, sending a replacement part that was damaged in shipping). In my case, I contacted the manufacturer directly for help, which they did (thankfully!). I really wanted to have something positive to say, but my goodwill is exhausted (this took 7 months from order to resolution) and I really just want to save anyone else from having to go through anything similar. There are plenty of other online shops offering the same pieces with excellent customer service. I can recommend Finnish Design Shop, WallpaperSTORE, Connox, and Stilleben from personal experience. Our go to for lighting, love everything we've purchased - huge variety of pieces and wide range of prices. One of the best shops in Ottawa to find gifts and definitely the best place in the city to get furniture.

I've bought many products from The Modern Shop over the years and they consistently select the unique items I didn't even know I wanted. A real cut above when you care about quality design.

Amazing selection of modern furniture, lighting and tableware. Have purchased a lot of items over the past few years at The Modern Shop and have always received great customer service and timely delivery.
