Visited: 31/05/2023nnThis was such a fun experience. We did the Planetarium and Dark Sky Telescope tour. They have others you can book too. We got to Fairmont Lodge early to wander thr grounds as they have stunning views from the lake. Lodge was classic style lodge and lovely inside.nThe main even, however, the Planetarium and Telescope Tour was fantastic. The tour guides were so knowledgeable and friendly, they answered lots of questions. The Planetarium was a lovely show about the stars, and light pollution which was fascinating. They had additional tents with different scientific information about meteors and gases causing different colours in the skies. Looking at stars through the telescopes were really fun, got to see Venus, and The Big Dipper. We did, unfortunately, have some slouds blocking some of the stars but was still amazing.nnDefinitely wrap up warm as it can get cold at night in Jasper!
The students were passionate but sitting in lawn chairs in tents was not worth the money at all. I thought it would actually be a planetarium, no, it was a hotel parking lot.
The guides were amazing!! We loved learning more about the auroras, space rocks and seeing the stars. Unfortunately it was quite cloudy but they gave us a 2 year rain cheque to come back any time! Would definitely see it again.
When we came on site it was a bit cloudy, but girl from reception convince us to stay. We started as 11:45. They led us to fenced territory nearby. They have 4 telescopes thereone video telescope and 3 optical. They divide us for 4 groups and assign a telescope for every group. We took a look only in 3 out 4 telescopes all we saw are stars in just a bit better quality than you can see it with the naked eye. then rain stared and they sent us to tents with YouTube videos and meteorites.nnYou going to spend around 45 min STANDING. Be prepared it can be quite exhausting.nnThis experience doesn't worth money they ask, unless you are space geek.
Would 100 % recommend this as a must see on your trip to Jasper! I would recommend doing it early in the trip as the guides give really useful information about the town, where best to see the stars, aurora, wildlife. Our guides Garrett, Gerry and Shane were really enthusiastic and knowledgeable, happy to answer Qs.nWe got to experience things actively, not just taking in passively. It was cool to learn about and use the telescopes and the planetarium was a great experience.nWould recommend going early as the Fairmont grounds are large and parking for RV is about a 7-10 min walk from the hotel reception, where tour counter is located.
