In all honesty I would not recommend this school. The owner is only invested because it is her business. Not because she wants to teach, not because she wants to help you. It’s only about the money. The general feeling I got when I took the course was that they didn’t care if you knew how to ride a bike or pass the test as long as they got paid. Yes you do learn basic and I do mean BASIC skills here. You will not learn what they say that they will teach you on the website. There is no road prep, there is a lot of running around on little 150 Honda’s if that’s your thing, driving around in parking lots around pylons... The bikes they have are in generally poor condition the clutch on mine kept sticking and the course itself DOES NOT teach you what you need for the road They will teach you... Proper stopping Slipping the clutch better control of the bike at low speed Breaking which is important Hill starts which I did have to do on my road test Ready Position which will save your life There is value in taking a course like this one. I did learn some valuable things in this course. However I think there are better options out there and more understanding teachers. However nothing will replace riding around with an experienced rider. Anyway, I feel personally that the school doesn’t live up to their promises and they do misrepresent what you will learn. And here’s a copy of my certificate if the owner wants to say that this is a fake review... Email exchange update:
I recently took the rider's training course with Edge and it was absolutely fantastic! I had already been riding a bit on my own and have some previous experience however, learning from the ground up, with certified trainers really makes a huge difference in the way motorcycle riding is understood. The training will keep guys who think they're good, on their toes and keeps them honest. A course like this is a must if you're going to be able to ride properly and ride safely. Trina and Dave were excellent teachers and delivered prompt and constructive feedback throughout the entire course. The equipment and location were great for learning. I also did my road test through the registry Edge uses and was able to take the test on the same bike I completed the course with. The examiner Spencer was absolutely fantastic and made the road test smooth and stress free. The bike was ready for me to practice with prior to my road test as well and Trina gave me tons of time to get acquainted with the bike. If I could give more then 5 stars I would! Thank you Trina, Dave and the rest of the crew at Edge for a great experience! I hope to be able to ride as well as Trina one day! Skillzzz!
I had a great time taking The Edge's beginner course. I haven't ridden a bike since I had a dirt bike, 15 years ago. David, Trina and company explained techniques, gave a lot of positive AND negative feedback which is needed to correct bad habits or unsafe riding practices, discussed in detail riding techniques, safety, road rules, all within a two day period. I'm more than satisfied with how the course was laid out and structured, and the instructors were quite professional. To the negative reviewers, when it comes to instructors "barking" at people, they're usually trying to get your attention if you're putting someone else in danger, or ensuring that you can hear them. I'm damn near deaf so they would talk much louder in order to communicate. The bikes are used on a closed course and have some road scars, they're used with people who have never ridden bikes and are dropped frequently. I witnessed a bike get dropped in my class, so obviously the company isn't going to use brand new bikes for training purposes. Reviewers complaining that they didn't get any actual "road use" don't realize how dangerous that is, to have beginners ride on public roads with no prior experience seems like a recipe for disaster. I believe most of these one star reviewers lack basic common sense when it comes to their grievances towards the instructors and owner. If you're planning on getting your class 6, have never ridden a bike or need a refresher, this is a great course. The exercises help with rider agility, balance and co-ordination, all skills required on the road. Thanks again to The Edge for the fantastic training!
Had a great experience with Edge. Went from almost no bike experience to passing my road test in 9 days. Instructors were wonderful. They kept the group moving, progressing and engaged. I even came back for 3 extra self directed lunch hour sessions, at no cost, to practice up my skills and build confidence on the bike. Great 2 day program, I highly recommend this course and company.
Great instructors, patient, knowledgeable, and great course outline. Definitely recommended for this purpose. Unfortunately, a telephone call to the office to make some further inquiries on reserving a bike to practice before my road test was met with rudeness, literally telling me that I shouldn't be calling her. Left quite a sour taste in my mouth. Perhaps Edge should hire someone who doesn't mind answering the phones in a pleasant manner. Needless to say, despite booking an afternoon off of work, and showing up 2 hours early to get in lots of practice, there was no bike available to practice with, as the only available "road-worthy" cruiser bike was being used by others who were using it for the road test. Thankfully I had 5 minutes of practice on the bike before actually going on my road test. Wow! Edge does not offer any "on-road" training either, unlike some of the other motorcycle training available in the city. Luckily I already owned a bike and was able get some real time road practice before my Class 6 road test which I passed by the way. Learning the motorcycle skills in a parking lot is great, but a huge difference when you actually get on the road. Without some prior road time experience before the Class 6 road test, this is setting up new riders for failure. If you don't own a bike already, I would recommend looking for a motorcycle school that offers "on-road" training as part of their course. And don't call the office. They don't like phone calls. If you have a bike and can get real road experience and practice, then instructors at the Edge are awesome.
This past Friday I attended the Motorcycle course. The class had 11 students to 2 instructors. There were 3 of us in the class who had no prior riding experience. I registered for the course to see if riding a motorcycle was for me and if it was, I would purchase a Harley. The bikes provided to us for the course were not in good condition; missing light indicators and the gear shift was hard to use and a few of us had issues trying to gear down and getting the bikes into neutral which caused them to stall repeatedly. The instructors appeared annoyed when we stalled and were little to no help. When the bike stalled, I struggled getting the bike back into neutral so I pushed/pulled harder on the shift and I was yelled at for abusing the bike. The course began with learning about bike safety and then we quickly jumped into riding. I was confident and felt I was catching on pretty quickly. When we moved on to shifting the bike into 2nd gear, they gave us quick directions and I felt confused and ill prepared. The owner was riding her bike next to me yelling at me because I didn’t know how to gear up and gear down. She talked to me like I was incompetent. At 9:30 half an hour before the course was done for the night, I asked if I could leave the course to go home. I felt I was not learning and that I needed more time to practice before we moved onto new lessons. I was told I was forfeiting the course and wouldn’t get back my $600+ I paid for it. I emailed them that night to see if I would be able to come back on Saturday to give it another go but was told I couldn’t as I missed the final lessons on Friday evening. However, I was offered to come back on Sunday to practice for a bit but when I contacted them to confirm, I was told that today wouldn’t work but to come during the week.
Seriously the worst training experience ive ever had. The owner is super rude and treats all the students and even her co workers like trash. When I took the course she had two instructors walk out on her and 5 students left because of how unprofessional she is. The actual bikes you ride on are complete garbage as well and dont even shift properly. When you go to tell her theres something wrong with the bike or its hard to shift she will just treat you like an idiot not taking into consideration that you are a brand new rider. I would not recommend this course to anyone new rider or not. I almost left the course as well but I was on the last day and would have not been able to get my money back or my certificate. I wouldnt even give this one star if it was an option....
First, let me start by noting the positives... I took the course with my dad as we're both new and wanted to learn the basics of road riding in a safe controlled environment. The Instruction we received from both Dave and Trina was very good!! I feel I would be lying if I said otherwise. the fact that you get an insurance discount and the ability to take one of there bikes out for free to do the road test really sweetened the deal for my dad and I. The bikes that you do the course on are of a good variety so different riders can easily manage to find something that they feel comfortable on, the bikes are not poorly maintained as some of the other reviewers have said, there's some cosmetic damage on them, but that's it! What do you expect from a rider training school? The bike they supply you with for your road test are in good working order with no visible damage, sadly I'll not be riding one of them for reasons I will get to later. Now the issue, on multiple occasions Trina, the owner was very rude to me and some of the other students. I never once consciously did anything to antagonize her nor did the other students. However, for seemingly little things Trina would continue to speak down to me and some of the other students as if we were children or in some sort of boot camp. I have a strong temperament and refrained from being anything less than friendly. She called out one of the students for wearing an improper jacket, even though it was a motorcycle jacket, Trina didn't seem to think so for some arbitrary reason. The student was overweight and Trina insisted that the student wear one of the school's jackets which the student couldn't fit into. The student was then told that they'd have to rebook, the student proceeded to scream profanity at Trina and left. No Idea if she ever got refunded. That's the kind of inflexibility that left me baffled, I called before I took the course to confirm something I was unclear about and as I was saying goodbye I could hear her sigh on the other line before the call ended, Incredibly unprofessional. On top of that, I just booked my road test at KVP Registries and decided to utilize the free motorcycle loaner that I was promised upon successful completion of this course. I received a call today from Trina which went to my voicemail stating that I would need to come to their facility to practice on their motorcycle, that message was left sometime in the AM. I was busy and didn't recognize the number so I didn't have a chance to return her call. I happened to be in the area later today and ran down to talk to Trina or Dave about which motorcycle I'd like to do my test on. Trina was on lunch so I spoke with Dave and he informed me the same thing Trina did over the phone. Dave said he could size up my riding ability tomorrow on the morning of my test before I go out and I said that would be great! Then about half an hour later I got another phone call from Trina stating that she refuses to allow me to ride her bikes for my test and that I would have to rebook. KVP Registries has a 48hr rebooking policy which I fully understand so as a result, I could not rebook. The frustrating part is that Trina was so inflexible and was quite rude over the phone yet again telling me to "stop interrupting me" when I was nothing but polite. Trina, as an honest easy to deal with person I am reaching out to you to make this right for me and for every other dissatisfied customer. My line remains open should you want to apologize. I would love to see your business succeed, however, a business is only as successful as it's customers are happy. Maybe look into taking a people management course, and working on your interpersonal skills. I will be utilizing every major review site, so expect a review on Yelp as well. I have all receipts and a voicemail to prove our interactions.
