Few have the understanding to get it right and even fewer the opportunity. This place is on the verge of becoming world class. The main ingredient: Love. It’s not the five or so courses, the phenomenal food (trumpet mushrooms in a lovely cream, rabbit cooked two ways, black cod in a sauce you’ll be willing to lick your plate for in front of strangers), it’s not the authentic setting (inside a bit of historic Seattle never buried underground), or the ohhh too cool industrial gone urban good...its the love that will make this place a restaurant you’ll regret not going to while you could. Yes it’s super pricey but it’s worth the experience. This was my and my parters holiday present for two family members and we did not regret it. With a few tweaks this place will outcompete The Herb Farm, which, after our being lucky enough to sit next to the chef’s ma and pop, looks like might be in the works. Look for a whole new kind of fusion. One that understands food is about connection to place, the planet, each other, and ultimately, love.

Best food, wedding detail and went the extra mile and found a pumpkin ale as a special request. The apitizers through deserts were top notch along with the wine pairings. Matt and Co. Run a good shop.

Many people comment on the 'family-style' dining here. If you mean 'family' as in 'sharing a narrow table with complete strangers,' then I agree with you. If you're referring to the food, clearly your family eats much less than mine. Small portions aside, there were delectable highlights. Steamed halibut over a bed of shaves fennel and fava beans had a complex blend of flavors. The heirloom tomato salad had far too much mint and exactly two average sized slices of delicious tomato. The ambiance was vintage, semi-rustic elements with lots of scattered exposed brick to remind you how antique chic this place is. Our waiter for the evening was by far the strangest element: he had no greetings, no spiel, had almost nothing to say about the food other than a categorical list of the ingredients. He was proficient and kept our glasses filled, but was otherwise the most odd waiter I have ever had.
