Service was great but food was underwhelming. We had 530 dinner reservation but they didn’t have multiple items on the limited menu. The cocktails are amazing, I did get the best mocktail I’ve ever had. The beet risotto was not good, we didn’t eat most of it but the burrata and watermelon salad was amazing. Lamb chops were great but the gnocchi on the side was also not good, very over cooked. We will go back after the menu change to try once more since half the food was great, half was just not good.
Enjoyed having a lovely brunch in a nice setting. If you have a desire to enjoy a nice Sunday morning... Then consider The Blue Hen. The food/eggs were cooked perfectly, the presentation appealing and I must say I loved the coffee.
The best oysters we've had in Saratoga, and great service! The sushi was not our favorite, but not horrible for American sushi.
This place is gorgeous. I would definitely pay to eat at this place, despite the slow service... Pro: - the place is so pretty! The sun-shining through the window panels were so nice. - they have good coffee and amazing bread! Their daily baked scones were super moist, buttery and flavorful - good location. Near by many other stores and park Con: - only accepts customers until 10:45 am. Make reservation - had two waiters, definitely not enough to wait all the tables. Waited 15 minutes just for coffee... - the place made a mistake on opentable. I made the reservation at 11 AM only accepts customer until 10:45am, so they were trying not to take us because they didn’t know why opentable allowed us to even make the reservation. After couple talks, they catered us. We were on vacation and had all the time in the world, so we were overall happy
The Blue Hen is an awesome spot for breakfast in Saratoga. I was interested to see what happened to the area where the Blue Hen is located in the new updated Adelphi hotel. It used to be sort of a secret garden bar area in the old hotel. The updated restaurant is beautiful. It feels open, airy, bright and clean. The restaurant is in a glasses in atrium type of room. The food was delicious and the service was great. Everything was so fresh and even my four year old daughter loved it!
Wonderful experience. The dining area is very pretty, with a glass ceiling. All the staff very attentive and polite. They offer a 3 course meal & glass of red/white wine for $35. Fantastic price for what you are served! Complimentary bread. I had the squash soup amazing, salmon with beets & brussel sprouts, and the 'tea de creme' for dessert. All was very delicious! Salmon was perfectly seasoned. My date had the scallops well seasoned & tender, short ribs, and the Chestnut dessert. We recommend all of the above!
Delicious bloody mary's and mimosa's and the food was great as well! The eggs benedict was very good there in house ham that they make was superb!
Food 4.5 stars We ordered: French cake roll - perfectly balanced spicy sweet crunchy savory roll. Beet Endive Salad- refreshing, slightly light on beets more of endive salad but overall good. Surf and turf - beautifully seasoned and perfect cook on the steak, excellent presentation Duck- fat was rendered perfectly. Temperature was most likely correct when initially prepared but it came cold. The first issue with our stay was the service. While the waiter was responsive and hard working, he was overwhelmed with too many tables. There was one waiter for something like 9 tables. As a result we went most of our meal without water and plates were not cleared from the table in a timely fashion. The second issue was kitchen and food timing. Our sushi roll came an hour and ten minutes into waiting. The other courses also came slowly and unfortunately the timing of the duck and surf and turf was not well paired as the duck was cold and surf and turf was warm. Clearly the duck had sat and waited for the steak. Overall we enjoyed the food but the wait and poor timing did not make for an ideal dining experience. This place significantly under met our expectations for fine dining.
I figure it makes sense to rate a restaurant in four categories: quality of food, service, atmosphere, and price. The quality of food here was quite good. My family generally enjoyed their orders. Two quibbles: one, I felt my omelette was more egg than anything else--the mushrooms and cheese were excellent but not found in a third of my bites--and two, my brother's order was served as fried without the menu making that clear, a style of preparation we both prefer to avoid. Service was great. Our waitress was attentive throughout. Thanks! The atmosphere is the best part. Go on a sunny day and bring sunglasses, because the whole roof and rear wall is clear glass. It was a really nice brunch environment. Finally, price was okay. I don't like portions so large that it'd be irresponsible to finish a plate, and in that sense these we pretty reasonable. Compared to other brunch spots I've visited, though, you'll spend a bit more for the food here. If you want a really pretty spot for a brunch not so big as to slow you down and don't mind going a few bucks higher, Blue Hen right on Broadway in Saratoga is a good choice.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious. One thing was peculiar. I ordered a medium steak. The steak was presented open-faced. It was rare. If it wasn't presented open-faced I might give the chef the benefit of the doubt. So I thought that was a little bit odd for a five star restaurant. I still ate it though and I tipped the wait staff! Overall great job but I'd be having a chat with that chef.
