We took our sxs exploring. We found this absolute Jem of a restaurant!!! The food was delicious and staff are so awesome. Happy to have found this place off the trail.
Today's experience at the Big Scoop was a very good one. Although they were short on kitchen staff and were backed up and we waited for awhile, it was worth the wait. The staff was very pleasant and fun and the food was delicious. All members of our party were happy with their meals. Will definitely go back again.
I'm in awe of this little gem! Easily one of the best family diners in this part of Nova Scotia. Delicious, affordable food, awesome selection, including some "gluten free friendly" items OMG gluten free chocolate cheesecake..., and the nicest, friendliest, and most efficient service. If I lived closer to Middleton, I'd be here every single day maybe it's best for my waistline that I don't! Extra big thank you to Libby who took such lovely care of my family. Can't wait to dine there again. Kudos to the owners and wonderful staff!
This restaurant uses an insanely cold air conditioning temeprature. If you dont wan to be frozen to death, dont come here. This place was bustling with patrons when we were there which we always take as a good sign. Basic food, but good staff and they offer take out as well. I had the seafood chowder, which was great. You can also get all the standard fare here of chicken fingers, fries, burgers, etc. They had a party of 80 when we arrived so we couldn't get space, but they have patio you can use, or picnic tables on the back lawn. We chose the picnic tables and got the food to take away. In the sun and warmth.
Many years ago on our way to a curling event my friend suggested we stop here because; "it must be good, look at all the dirty trucks". This is now the metric by which I choose where to eat when traveling. The only way I pass through Middleton without stopping in is if they are closed. All the food is good and consistent. I will have my pie first, thank you, I am not hindered by social convention.
We are so disappointed... my wife and I grew up in the valley. We are home visiting and we were so excited that the big scoop was still open as we both use to love coming here. Today, our server was possibly the rudest server we've ever had. On the menu, in bold text reads "make sure to let your server know about any dietary allergies." When we asked about vegetarian options due to allergies, our waitress acted like we were crazy. We were told the vegetarian burger only comes with ketchup, relish, mustard, and a couple onions. I asked if we cold substitute the veggie patty onto another burger option and was told yes. Unfortunately when my wife tried to say which burger she'd like the patty substituted onto, our waitress then asked us "well why would we do that?" Giving us a hard time about it. She was so oddly rude to us. We then waited for our food for another 30 minutes. Ended up leaving before the food got there. So very disappointed with what this establishment seems to have turned into.
This was the worse meal and service we had at this restaurant. My BF and I have been coming here for years! It wasn't hard to tell the owner wasn't working today! The waitress was inattentive and the order was mixed up. This time of the year you would think they would serve fresh vegetables instead of canned. It's sad...the prices go up and the quality goes down. This is the first time we did not leave a tip
We have eaten here many times in the past & gotten really good food, but, ordered 4 orders of Clams & Chips on October 14, and the food was horrible! Fries were burnt & soggy, Clams were burnt and almost indistinguishable from the Fries. Coleslaw was awful. We were extremely disappointed to have paid so much money for food that wasn't edible. Most of it had to be thrown away. Not sure if we'll ever go back...
Always great food and amazing service. Comfortable and relaxing. Wait staff are always on their toes and treat everyone kindly and respectfully. Kid-friendliness: Nice kids menu and staff treat kids well Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs to enter building so wheelchairs can get in either front or back entrances.
Great place to eat. Excellent food, reasonable prices. Friendly ataff and light cheery atmosphere. Highly recommend.Food: 5/5
