Great spot for sour beer lovers and a nice change from all the IPAs and pale ales everywhere else. Small selection brewed from locally sourced ingredients of the nearby forests and the rest Oregon has to offer. They did a great job of using old barrels to separate their patio area from the parking lot to enjoy your beers outside or appreciate the shade indoor their airy tasting room. Check the wall of maps to put a pin in your city if you happen to be visiting from anywhere uncommon then enjoy a flight.
There is no officially recognized wild beer style in North America, but if anyone could lay claim to having defined one, it is Paul Arney at The Ale Apothecary. There is a recognizable and unique house character. La Tache is a good beer to start with here and perfectly encapsulates the style in the most approachable way.
Loved the place! And of course the beers the reason we came here, they are pure art! Stacey is amazing at explaining and describing the options. Come here for a delicious experience for your senses and then take some bottles home
Stop here on your Bend beer crawl! The sours are amazing, so complex and delicious. The ambiance and owners make this place really special. The tasting room was cozy and one of the owners talked us through the menu, teaching us a little about the sours. We’re bringing a few bottles home to share with our friends back east. Highly recommend.
An incredibly unique style of beer different from anything else I've tried in central Oregon. It might take some getting used to the big tastes and aromas that remind me more of a wine tasting. Service was spectacular with knowledgeable staff. Environment was open air industrial with a hip flare. Prices were a little high compared to other breweries. Family friendly with an Italian food truck too. Looking forward trying the handmade pastas. Go here, try it.
This place is Awesome! Tasty beverages in an intimate, artfully decorated space. Groovy wood barrel industrial backdrop. A+ location. Perfect spot to sample some hand crafted ales that are deliciuosly different from the average micro brew. The bartender Emma was super friendly and knowledgable. We will be back!
Unique spot for unique beer. Ever drank a tree? It tasted like I did, and it was really good. All the beers are slightly tart due to the barrel aging process. Bottles are a bit pricey. Seems like a great place for a date.
This place is super cool. They are doing such fun experimental things with beer. This place is not for your standard hop head. They do a lot with wild fermentation and sours. Barrel aging most of there beers. If you are into more interesting experimental sour beers this is the spot to check out. Would recommend very much. Also staff was super helpful with explaining different tasting profiles for the beers. Letting us taste some beers they had on tap that where close to the bottled ones that where not on tap. Love this place will return anytime I’m back in bend for sure. Also will look for there stuff in stores when I can find it.
Smaller than nano-batch, these beers are incredible! Quiet and intimate at the tasting room. All barrel aged beer here! Thank you Ale Apothecary!
We could only visit 1 brewery while in Bend so I pick the one with the highest rating. We were very disappointed that they only had sour beers, cider, & kombucha. I didn't realize this as I didn't have time to research while on the road. I found out later they have 2 different cans of other beer but that was not offered or on the menu that we saw & they were out of the kombucha. Just beware, that if you are looking for a large variety of beer that is not sour, this is not the place for you.
