Every December 23, we go out for Thai food to celebrate the life of a family member who passed away. It was her favorite type of cuisine. Since moving to Central Oregon, we hadn't been to any Thai restaurants. Thai O is a little gem tucked away in a shopping center near Fred Meyer. Upon walking in, we were greeted by our waiter. He was the only wait staff that we saw in the half fully restaurant. Having been a server, I know how daunting it can be to manage many tables alone. There were only three of us, but he was managing a 7-top and some smaller groups. He was attentive and prompt throughout our time there. The rest of the patrons seemed to be having a great experience, as well. We ordered pot stickers and egg rolls to start. They were fresh and hot. The dipping sauces were awesome. I kept one to put on my entrée. Both tangy and sweet, but not the same concoction. For entrées we ordered Basil Stir Fry with pork, Pad Thai with beef, and Teriyaki Chicken. The basil stir fry was on point. The green beans were perfectly al dente. All the vegetables were really, but fresh green beans can be tricky. The sauce was so good that I would have put it in a cup and drank it. The white rice was a good vessel to carry the sauce. Although the other two dishes weren't mine, I was able to try them both. My 14 year old cleaned the plate of his teriyaki chicken. Including the fresh broccoli and the carrot garnish. My husband's beef pad Thai was tasty as well. Mine was the best, though. We left feeling food drunk and elated. That's what happens when you eat so much you're ready for a nap. I highly recommend Thai O. They put a lot of care into the preparation of their food, and the recipes are enriched with Thai flavors. Our celebration of life was abundant in delight. We will be returning and are stoked that we found this place that's just a few minutes from home. Kid-friendliness: Diner esque feel Parking: Lots of parking in the shopping center and surrounding area. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair ramp from parking and flat surface entry. Spacious enough to have space for a chair without bumping up too close to neighboring tables.
This may be the lowest rating I have given a restaurant but it is fair, I believe. Thai O completely lacks ambience. The interior is cold and cafeteria-like, lacking even the overly bright and obnoxious fast food decor in favor of sparse and uninviting. Our server, who was not Thai, was robotic and relatively indifferent, despite it being an un-busy Monday night. The food was wholly uninspired. I would characterize it as the Panda Express version of Thai food. Truly it was the worst Thai food experience I have ever had. It was not inedible by any means; it was just tasty enough to possibly garner a second visit from some, but not from me.
We enjoyed Thai food for lunch. They were willing to make Pad Thai without egg. We enjoyed Sweet and Sour Stir Fry, Garlic pepper stir fry were also great.Food: 5/5
I ordered pork pad woon sen take out- I was told on the phone it would be about 15-20 minutes. I arrived to the restaurant about 45 minutes later. After being in the restaurant waiting at the cash register for about 10 minutes I was finally greeted by the employee. I informed him I was there to pick up an order and the name that would be on it. I waited an additional 30 or so minutes before he even went to check on the food, just standing around at the front. Finally, he grabbed a to go bag that had been sitting in the window since before I arrived and handed it to me and told me the total. I handed him cash and waited for another 10 or so minutes to receive my change, which never came. I was running late to work by this point so I told him to go ahead and just keep the change and left he wound up with about a $12 tip which I wouldn’t have given if I had any say. I finally make it home with what I think is my food, only to open it and find I was given what looked like chicken fried rice. I called and told the gentleman on the phone that I was given the wrong food. He said “that’s how we make it here”. I told him Pad Woon Sen according to their website and menu is a noodle dish and the food I received was only rice and vegetables and the wrong protein and asked if I could come back and exchange it for what I ordered and paid for. He eventually told me again that’s how they make it there and hung the phone up on me. Wound up spending about $30 on food I didn’t even eat because I was given the wrong dish and they refused to make it right.
Quick service for take out. The peanut curry was thin and chunky instead of what I look for in good curry thick and creamy, also had too much fish sauce and not enough veggies. The pineapple fried rice had way too much turmeric and was dry. The pork egg rolls were nice and crispy on the outside but didn’t have much flavor. Overall, it was overpriced for the meal and I wouldn’t eat there again.
I would give this place a 10/10 on vibes alone. If you are looking for a quiet place for date night, or a evening by yourself, this is the place. With low lighting and a calming atmosphere, I was pleasantly surprised to sit down for dinner with my kids somewhere that could keep everyone still for longer than 5 minutes. -Food- Amazing. Even my picky 4 year old tried everything we ordered. Pad Thai was absolutely wonderful, and a Thai iced tea was the perfect drink on the side. Go here, you will not regret it.
If it is going to take 1.5 hours for take out, be truthful and say that. Don’t promise 30mins and leave people who have already paid sitting and waiting and then ending up with the incorrect meal when we get home and open the containers. We have had decent experiences before but always come back anyway because the food is good. This time, well, probably our last.
BEST CURRY AROUND. my boyfriend and i have tried just about every thai curry in bend, they’re good, but sometimes they skimp on the veggies, but THIS curry is by far the best, most flavorful, most hooked up, good price. thank you
Had a lunch date with my daughter. She had yellow curry and I had the Pan Nang curry. Both were excellent. 5 star.
Good food, Terrible Service. It's a shame really, we used to be regulars, but the guy running front of house consistently acts like he does want to be there. Made an order for take out and found out that it was made wrong when I got home. Attempted to go back to correct, but found that they were closing early though they didn't lock the doors, and they wouldn't help or correct their misunderstanding. Won't be going again.
