Talbot Gardens Arena

Story

The Talbot Gardens is a hockey arena in the Canadian community of Simcoe, Ontario. Opened in 1946, Talbot Gardens helped filled a need for ice hockey in North America in addition to other sports that could be played indoors during the summer months. A professional hockey team, the Norfolk IceCats, once played out of Talbot Gardens before the North Eastern Hockey League became defunct. The current tenants at Talbot Gardens include a Junior "C" team, the Simcoe Storm of the Niagara & District Junior C Hockey League and the Norfolk Vikings of the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League.SummaryCertain hockey games pertaining to the Simcoe Storm are broadcast on Community Cable Channel 5 during the weekends. During the 1990s, the arena was given a facelift to look more like Maple Leaf Gardens (the former home of the Toronto Maple Leafs). Thus, the architecture was re-arranged and the arena received a new coat of paint. Local sponsors (most notably Tim Hortons) have always decorated the scoreboard in addition to the interior of the hockey arena. Roller hockey is a featured attraction in the summer and is played by children as a practice game for the winter ice hockey games. Hockey season at Talbot Gardens typically lasts from September 1 (just before Canadian Labour Day) to April 15.

Attended this arena for a lacrosse tournament. A very “small, hometown arena feel”. Single pad, friendly concession stand staff. Unique benches for viewing the game. Certainly a neat arena if you get a chance to watch a sporting event.
Nice Rink! Heated viewing area... Large stands.. elevators available and ramps most places. Pretty clean too!
I was there for public skate with my Daughter age 7 . Who was very excited to go because she was going on for skate after long time and she was needed stand for support to learn and get herself comfortable on ice but the staff declined to give by stating that its not available for public skate because some big kids were misused it. This was completely ridiculous reason to me that you don’t give the tools to little kids need to learn and recreation because of others!!! Talk to the manger too but he was also the same , who was not there and didn’t know what exactly was going there and couldn’t see what my daughter was feeling because of all that. Very poorly manage facilities i would say. Recreation centre should be for encourage and support people for such activities not to demotivate. I was in different town before coming to this county and where everything was available at such centres like even skate shoes and helmets too for rent out. Here didn’t expect that but at least should let people use support aid who need. I hope this gets to the management and they rethink and works on basic and doesn’t waste someone’s time and money like mine today.
Lots of parking and ground level entrance. Arena is warm and well laid out. Seating is nostalgic with it's extra wide wooden seats.
It is an old arena. The bench doors are ridiculously high for children, the dressing rooms are ovens, and the ice is average at best. On the bright side, the bench seats are quaint and provide plenty of space for two people and there is not a bad seat in the place.
