First of all, I just want to open this review by saying this Chris Paik individual needs to get a life. Grow up. What benefit do you get out of trash talking a small business that’s just getting on their feet with new ownership on a public forum like Google Reviews? Childish, act your age. The food here is great. The original owners, who had over 30 years of experience as ramen shop owners, would be proud. The quality is still fantastic, and they have learned well from the mom and pop who ran this shop for many years. The food was piping hot, anything that needed to be crispy was on the mark. The gyoza was perfectly cooked, and the filling was soft and not overdone. Noodles were perfectly cooked, the new garlic shoyu broth was a refreshing new addition to the menu. I have been coming to Takano ramen cafe regularly for the last six years, and while I miss the small, homeyness of the old aesthetic, it was time for a refresh—and the new owners have done a fantastic job. Keep it up ladies. You have our support.
A nice small Mom & Pop restaurant. So nice to have Japanese ramen this far from Vancouver. Very nice ramen choices too. Great taste and great price! Edit: just went back to and noticed the nice renovation. Then was further impressed with the menu selection. And finally, the Takano House Special was one of the best ramen I've ever had. It's loaded with everything - karage, wontons, chashu, egg.. - delicious!! The Champon was delicious too. Careful, don't go higher than "spicy" unless you're prepared. I was happily sweating eating this. Well done and thank you for bringing such great ramen to the Tri-cities!
UPDATE: 2nd VISIT Went on a Friday dinner time, nearly empty so service was very quick! As I expected, the already big menu grew even more than last time I visited. Luckily no California rolls...yet I guess the owner's weren't listening because the ramen didnt improve at all. Broth is stilll too salty and lacks depth. How can a freshly made ramen can only be marginally better than instant? Maybe the owner should consult the last chef/owner to improve the food. The skewers were particularly egregious. My dinner mate actually got angry after it was presented. The meatballs were from Costco, the shrimps overcooked. The bento featured assorted tempura, chicky teri, salad and a spring roll from guess where? Costco! It was just mush inside, just gross. After the meal, my friend called the food "brutal". I dont think it was brutal, just confused and sad considering how much the management must be struggling. I predict this place will be pushed out by competition like Marutama Ramen that ll soon open this winter.
Best Ramen in town! I have been going to takano for years. I always order Karashi ramen which is spicy one with gyoza combo. Broth is very tasty not salty. The pork is tender! Perfect! Staff was super friendly and Covid 19 prevention guidelines followed. Don't miss out if you're in the area.
Probably best ramen around the area. No MSG. Family style and friendly service! Owner was very smiley and makes you feel so welcome in their restaurant! Broth is very tasty. Compared to other ramen places, it’s lacking a bit of ingredients vegetables sides in the soup. Chasau is less in taste but probably the healthier version of it. Regardless of it, it’s still a solid bowl of ramen and you will want to come back again!
Cute and small "mom's & pop" place. Simple but effective and pretty decor. It's in a quiet place but I am guessing they are super busy during the week we went on the weekend. Service is pretty decent. Food tasted delicious especially the Wonton Shoyu Ramen. Definitely will go back if I am in the area or if I feel for Ramen.
Been here a few times. Great food. Broth is very flavourful and not too salty. Gyoza and chat siu are very tender and tasty. Noodles perfect - not overly firm or soft. Good portions and prices. Nice owners too. Limited menu, though vegan options. Can also accommodate take out.
The staff was pretty good, they served us well. I ordered the Nakasaki noodle and Tonkatsu which was crispy, It was all delicious. I will definitely go back there !!!
Outside downtown Vancouver, I've tried ramen in Burnaby, New Westminster, and Surrey. I would rank this place last - the shoyu soup flavour is not great. There charsiu smells very porky and not as tender as it should be. Portions sizes are filling but dude ingredients like bamboo shoots and corn tastes canned.
A very homey delicious taste! The noodles were so good. This is the best ramen I've tried in the area and will come back
