Swiss Bear Restaurant & Bakery

Story

Robert, Swiss Certified Chef, was raised in Switzerland where he studied culinary arts and apprenticed with Moevenpick Restaurant in Geneva. He further sharpened his chef skills within the well established Toronto dining district and later on in London.

Always in search of excellence; with a passion for quality, flavourful food, made-from-scratch philosophy and entrepreneurial spirit, Robert also operated restaurants in Toronto and London before the family move to ‘Swissbearland'; a great area to raise our family and to serve many folks from near and far.

The SWISS BEAR, owned and operated by the Sigrist Family, is a true family, professional venture; cultivating responsibility and strong work ethics in all. While we keep a watchful eye on efficiency, affordability and wait time, we will not take short cuts; from food production to finishing meals on order, everything is professionally prepared, with quality ingredients.

Meals are prepared by Dylan, talented, with skills developed under the mentorship of his dad Chef Robert, in charge of food and pastry production. Kitchen helper, meticulous Nicolas lines our jolly good tarts, created and maintains our Facebook; friendly server, entrepreneurial Olivier also operates our seasonal Schnitzel Express; jovial Joseph ably and eagerly helps in the dining room and with baking. We sincerely appreciate you coming in; Lori is committed to orchestrating your memorable SWISS BEAR experience.

Our unique menus offer European fare along with tried and true classics; enjoy our signature schnitzel simply, or choose from a variety of toppings. Take delight in our made-from-scratch pastries of bearlicious tarts and pies or take home a ready-to-bake savoury pie.

Chef Robert, his wife Lori and the cubs are enthusiastic to establish the SWISS BEAR as one of your favourite dining destinations!

It's a family run restaurant where everyone of working age seems to be employed in the operation. The decoration is very kitschy and tourist friendly, but won't offend the locals. As far as the food goes, they mostly serve schnitzel with various accoutrements and it's absolutely delicious! For dessert or a snack they also make butter tarts with all sorts of different fillings which I also highly recommend. The price could be better, and I think that's the main reason we don't east there now often.

Wonderful place! We stopped on our way up to Algonquin, it was so good, we also stopped on the way home 2 days later! The staff are super friendly and the food is outstanding. Well worth a visit. They even have cards and books to keep the kids entertained while you wait for your home cooked food. Lovely little extra details - a must try!

This is now my new stop on the way to the cottage! Really, really good food. The baked goods are awesome, best butter tarts I've had in a long time. The coffee is fantastic, forget timmies I get my travel mug filled here. Oh and last but not least the staff are so friendly!

Fantastic restaurant that you simply must visit en route to Algonquin! Fresh, authentic and decently priced, the food is delicious. Family owned, the customer service is beyond compare. It feels like you’ve come ‘home’; the hostess/owner will welcome you with smiles and open arms, ensuring your visit will exceed your expectations. TIP: try the schnitzel with Forestiere (white wine, butter, mushrooms & bacon) sauce and Rostï... and do NOT leave without picking up some amazing tarts!!

very nice people. I have been to Switzerland many times so I know the cuisine. and the swiss bear throws a twist.. no salt added. I was a bit shocked, but pleased, as swiss cuisine can be quite salty. it was very nice to be able to control the salt myself for once! the trademark Rösti must be made different in different regions, cuz that was not what I expected.
