The Swift Current Branch Library provides materials, information services, and programs to assist patrons, to nurture literacy and life-long learning, to spark curiosity and to inspire dreams. The library board and staff are dedicated to public service, equitable access, and meeting the cultural, recreational and practical information needs of the community they serve. Swift Current Branch Library extends its services through the Chinook Regional Library and the provincial public library system. The Board of the Swift Current Branch Library affirms the Statement of Intellectual Freedom of the Canadian Library Association.
Library Background
Swift Current Library first came into existence on May 14, 1918 when a Reading Room was opened in City Hall. Since then, the library has existed in a school room, has been adjoined to the Beatty Collegiate Institute and finally in 1974 was moved to the R.C. Dahl Building. The building is shared with the Art Gallery of Swift Current.
